Question about the box for box-squatting

we have these weird looking boxes in my gym, they are more like squares that you can mount on one another to achieve the right height. The weird thing about it is that it looks like a box from a side, but it is hollow inside, and it doesn't have a top. I don't know if it is something used for box squatting or not. What do you think?

i HAVE JUST THOUGHT OF ANOTHER WAY TO BOX SQUAT - TO USE A BENCH! aLTHOUGH YOU CANT CHANGE THE HEIGHT.. oh shit caps lock was on.

The rectangular squares you mention are used to put under the rectangular "stepper" that the aerobics people use. One rectangle fits on one side of it and another fits on the opposite end. If the have the rectangular squares they will have the "stepper" just look around.

i just use a bench .. .much easier and is pretty deep...i sit down on it hold the weight and pop back up

a bench is usually 17".... IMO, this isnt deep enough to break parallel with a wide stance.

its also pretty damn easy to build a sturdy box from plywood. id hate to think of what would happen if the aerobics squared caved under 700+lbs of weight.

yeah, those ARE aerobics accessories. I just saw some girl use it today. But I suppose I could squat on them, since I only squat in low 300s right now. Thanks for help guys.

those aerobics things are tougher than they look, I have taken 6 off of them at 3+ so that is at least 800 pounds.....god what was I thinking....lol.....build a box you'll be glad you did

i use those steppers also when im at the gym and not in my garage. i stack up 4 of them and they are great. wish i had some for my house;)

If you're talking about the plastic squares that are used to elevate the step platforms for aerobics class, then that's what I use. They're very durable and my behind is large enough that I don't fall inside the square hole. They also stack well and the height can be very easily adjusted by removing a square or two.

I'm 6'4" weigh 260 and have used up to 275 pounds so far on the bar and 80 pounds of band tension for DE Squat and have not had a problem with them. I have very long legs so I use 8-9 of them stacked up to get just below parallel.

By the way, I turn the squares so that I sit on them with the angle pointing BETWEEN my legs, ie. think diamond shape versus square shape. If you remember your geometry, the hypotenuse of the two triangles that forms the square runs parallel to my shoulder line.

Good Luck
