but really, who the fuck here can give you solid advice on such a matter unless they actually work for the rental company you are going to? Call them up... see if they will accept your cc.. if not then use your bf's... no freaking biggie. Don't opt for the additional insurance (like kb said) until you check with your insurance co... they usually cover rental insurance.

If all else fails, pay for the car cash, use his card as a hold and when you return it pay the remainder cash. They will ask for a cc # but usually won't charge the acct if you tell them you want to pay cash.

I will call but the reason I want others' opinions is because I have known people who have called the rental car companies and they have told them one thing and then they get there and it's a whole other story. But yeah - that is what I'll do. Just bring cash or use his card if all else fails.

there are many other routes ... call and have them send you something in writing... (fax) Let them know your situation and take names etc ... There is always some asshole in a company that fucks things up, so if you have a name and a number to go to then all will be good.

but backup... bring cash, and another cc... I've rented cars before that required my cc, but I wanted to pay cash so they just held that number until I returned the car and then I paid out the balance. Shouldn't be to complicated.

don't you have a travel agent? Couldn't that person set everything up all inclusive?

Technically if you BF is going you are not completely alone. The first trip I took completely on my own was to Chicago for the weekend shopping stayed at the Drake good times. I like traveling alone you tend to meet a lot of interesting people that way.

pretty much. seems so easy to just call the damn rental car place. even if they "tell you one thing but do something else" theres no amount of posting on EF that can change that.

You aren't too clever, are you? There's actually quite a bit I could get off of readings peeps experiences.

1) I could choose a rental company that people have had good experiences with - so by listening to what people say on here, I can make a wiser decision on a company.

2). Some peeps on here may have had experiences where they call ahead of time and then get there and it's as I said, the company pulls some shit -so I'd like to avoid those situations.

3). Good ideas arise from listening to what others had to say. I already got good advice.

P.S. There was a thread started awhile ago about summer vacations and I had already stated I was going here.. but nice try. If my purpose was to tell everyone I was going on a trip I assure you I wouldn't make it as complicated as this.

No matter what rental company you call they could say one thing and do something else when you show up, nothing anyone posts here will stop that, if indeed it is going to happen. Youre getting good advice so hope it makes you feel better. Either way you gotta call the rental company and hope for the best.
