i am gonna take 2 weeks off from working out starting towmorrow..i have been having alot of problems with my lower back muscles etc...and the question is should i take muscle relaxers the 2 weeks for it or should i just take pain killers?i am just wondering if the muscle relaxers will make me lose alot of strength by not workign out and just relaxing for the next 2 weeks...or would the better route be to numb the pain with some vicodens or oxys and hope it feels better after 2 weeks off?thanks

yeah, very good questions indeed. i wish i could answer that, but i can't, and i hope someone else can. i'm on a mix of a few things to calm down some of my nerve problems (mid-back) and would love to know what the effect is. i won't ask my doctor, however, because they think i'm only doing very light lifting just to stay in shape.....suckers! lol

ya i hope someone has gone through this before..for some reason i feel my back will be pretty week after eating muscle relaxers and just sitting around for the next 2 weeks...but i also think it may help it feel better...i would rather just eat some pain killers but then when i get back into it and my back is still hurting its ognna be like i wasted the whole time anyway..so i have no fuckin clue

oh, and all i'm gonna say about the pain killers is don't take anything that your doc didn't perscribe. pain killers are addictive, you don't want to get caught in that cycle.

Oops, forgot to type the rest. Anyways, when I had muscle spasms a few years ago it sucked ass. I was getting out of a car and out of nowhere. BAM!. My lower back is locked up. Totally debilitating. My doctor gave me Soma muscle relaxers. They worked really well in my opinion. They will make you feel mildly drunk, so don't operate and forklifts or bandsaws. You will not lose any more strength from them than if you just took the two weeks off. I doubt that you will need them for two weeks, but maybe.

My problem was that I grew so fast, that the muscles were playing catch-up with my bodym therein causing tighness and tension. After doing various stretches and those Soma pills; in a bout a week; I was feeling good as new. I felt that they helped my muscles "chill out" enough to were the inflammation could go away and get back to normal quicker. Pain med will just cover it up IMHO.

thanks for the info...looks like i will just mix them both together and relax till new years!!!!that may be my problem..as my back has been going up in weights my abs have not..im wondering if my shit is out of wack ..im jsut gonna take it slow when i start back up
crak600 thanks for the warning but my family is pill junkies so i know the results of over doing it..my cousins snorts crushed up oxys all day long ....i rather be healthy and work out then do drugs anymore:D

I'm not much for taking time off. I tore my left hamstring pretty badly on last Sunday...and I was doing gym work the first day that I could walk.

I take Aleve a lot and have been using muscle relaxers 2x a day since my injury (flexeril). They have really helped with recovery. I believe in icy-hot, aleve, ice, heat, stretching, reverse hypers, good mornings, etc...

Find out the problem and do whatever it takes...that is just me though.

This was my experience as well. I was having random mid-back muscle spasms, usually at night. Had to take either a soma or skelaxin to make it stop so I could sleep. I took off as well, just in case. With stretches and the relaxers, I was back in a week or 2 good as new, almost no lost strength. Was back exactly where I was in about a week of training.
Best of luck.
