Question about insulin sensitivity

I used to eat A LOT of sugar, pretty much lived on it 24/7. I still eat it every now and then, but now I eat much less of it and always have some protein or fat with it.

Lately, on very rare occasions when I have eaten something sweet by itself, I feel really bad about 30 minutes later - weak and shaky.

Before cleaning up my diet, I used to be able to eat a ton of sweets and not feel a thing (but that was when I felt bad all the time anyway).

Does this mean my insulin sensitivity has gotten better or worse? I'm thinking that I've gotten more sensitive, but is this good health-wise or not? At least it will keep me from eating sweets by themselves, but I want to know if I have an underlying insulin problem?

Thanks!

Being too sensitive and being too resistant both carry problems. Its more of a balanced is best area kind of deal. Though for bodybuilding its better to be on the more sensitive side IMO

I'm just wondering have I gotten more sensitive since cutting back on sugar?

OR

Do I just notice the bad feelings more because I know what it's like to feel good most of the time now, whereas before I pretty much lived in a permanent sugar-crash?

Do not confuse "carb sensitivity" as diamond described it (which is actually insulin resistance/glucose insensitivity) with glucose sensitivity. Good glucose sensitivity is paramount to good health and the ability to gain muscle and lose fat. Just make sure you aren't hyperinsulemic. You need to get a glucose tolerance test done to find this out.

Yep, Diamond has gotten her terms confused.

Whats happened is that you are letting your insulin control your blood sugar (the way it should be). Your basically going on a sugar high and then crashing. I don't think that your more sensitive IMO. Quite the contrary, most people who are truely sensitive to to sugar will watch their blood sugar go up, and up, and up for hours, sometimes even days after consuming large amounts of sugar. I would think that crashing after 30 minutes would show that your body is burning the hell out of it, leaving it "empty" of energy.

I used to live on a sugar high 24/7. Can you say Mt. Dew and HP ;)
