Question about donating old clothes

I'm cleaning house today, and I have a TON of old work clothes, socks with holes in them, torn shirts etc. Basically stuff that would be of no use even to the less fortunate.

Is it wrong to put them in bags and dump them off at the S.A. or Purple Heart, or should I just trash them. Tonight happens to be garbage night anyway.

If they are clothes you wouldn't wear (i.e., clothes with holes and torn), don't donate them. If they are in good condition, get them cleaned and donate them.

Tomorrow, I'm bringing some old suits (that I will never need again) to the mall. There's a charity that collects them for welfare mothers that have interviews.

I'm not really too concerned with the tax thing...I just think the clothes are of no use to anyone. Tax cut or not. But thats just my opinion...I dont really know if someone else who has nothing may disagree?

well, just do as nycgirl said. If they are still wearable, donate them. I have donated clothes that were 6 years old and in perfect condition. People sometimes go there and buy shirts, pants or shoes to work with :whatever:

Yeah, the tax thing is kind of negligble even if you itemize. Hillary Clinton is famous for writing off Bill's old worn undies a few years ago. Anyway, I digress.

I say toss them into the garbage.

don't give away clothes that are that worn.. it will just overcrowd the place with stuff they can't get rid of. If you have useful items, donate that and get a receipt for taxes.

Donating ripped clothes is considered to be insulting to the charity and the people they service.

I gave bin bags full of my old clothes to the motorbike taxi guys over the road not so long ago, they thought all their xmases had come at once, funny thing was that not one of them could find anything small enough for them to wear but they all fought over the clothes anyway.

up here we have donation boxes that we can put the bags into.
Another option for you is the community action center or some thing like that.
