Question about controlled deliveries!!!

Hey fellas, I have a package that was sent from China about 2 weeks ago that the tracking number never worked for. All of a sudden I've got a delivery notice on my door yesterday with the same number. Sure enough, I enter in the tracking number online to check it and it finally shows up as having been attempted to be delivered.

The problem I have is this... when I check the tracking history of the package, it shows as having come into Kennedy, then going straight to the post office like the next day. NO MENTION AT ALL of even having gone through customs. I've had a few international packs come to me and every time I've tracked them they all mentioned a very detailed timeline as far as when they enter the US, leave the airport, enter customs, pass customs, and are en route to my home. This one simply lists when it arrived at the airport, and that it left for delivery the next day (the timeframe makes sense... I've never had a package sit in customs longer than 24-36 hours). What bothers me is that customs isn't mentioned at all. Not that it entered, not that it sat for any extended amount of time, and not that it was held up or no longer trackable.

I guess I should also mention that I went to the post office yesterday to pick up my package before they closed and sat there for a good 5 minutes while the lady fooled around in the back. I got spooked after waiting that long and left saying that I had to be somewhere and couldn't wait any longer.

So what should I do? Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any bros who've gotten controlled deliveries care to chime in? Does this situation sound like something like that? I'm gonna clean house today after I get off work... definately before I head to the post office again. Anything else I should be aware of or consider?

Thanks guys,

- Judoman

u could just be spooked bro, since customs is at JFK it might not have even gone there, sometimes packages are just looked over,

def keep a clean house and get your package, btw, u just got a note, how were u to know what was inside of the package?...wink

I hope I'm just spooked, Johnny. I've heard horror stories about guys being told to wait at the post office till the cops show up and pull out the guns on you.

Its not against the law to pick up a package, besides, anyone can send u something, who knows, maybe i sent u a package, they need more then that....i wouldnt sweat it, just be confident when u walk in and be like i have no idea what this is, if they say anything, reject the package, cut your losses and move on....

I would suggest buying Rick Collins book Legal Muscle. Damn good info and you can never be to safe.

First of all, if it was a controlled delivery, what happened with you defeats the purpose of that very phrase. If you were going to be busted at the post office, you already would have been as the postal inspector would have already informed local law enforcement and they would have been waiting for you. Local PD isn't gonna come to the PO and arrest you because a postal employee called them, it just doesn't work like that.

Fact is, sometimes those fools just can't find a package in the back, or it may have even been taken back out by your local carrier to attempt another delivery.

Had it been a controlled delivery, there would have been a knock at your door, you accept the package, then bam, you're on the ground sprawled out with weapons aimed at you.

Syphon,

That makes sense but ya gotta know I'm paranoid as hell with all the busts lately. So you think that the cops would've been there waiting at the post office all day had they known I wasn't at home to get the delivery? I mean, after the first deliveray attempt they wouldn't really have an idea as to when I'd show up later that day to pick it up.

Also, would it make sense that if they DID want to do a controlled delivery that they wouldn't just let the mailman take it back to the post office? You'd think that the feds (who'd coordinate the whole thing) wouldn't want to release the package to the post office if they missed their bust earlier that day. I'd think that they'd just keep it with them till the next day when they try to redeliver it... or would they try again later that day?

I can't give you a blanket statement to cover all your concerns or a full statement as to how law enforcement would handle each and every attempted controlled delivery or stake out. What I can tell you is that if you were gonna be busted it probably would have already happened, especially since you went to the PO to pick up your package as it would have been nothing for a postal inspector to hang around all day. If you get a phone call, or a knock at the door by the postman at an odd hour, or if it seems like they are trying to pressure you to pick up the package then by all means, just foget it.

You raise good points and your concerns are warranted but I firmly believe that if you were gonna be busted or at least detained for questioning, the day you went in to get your package is the day it would have happened. They could very well try to deliver and redeliver the package, but with the delivery they usually will have a judge issue a search warrant for your residence as well, and a search warrant isn't good for a lifetime, they usually have so many days from the date of issuance to execute the warrant, in Texas it's five days including the date of issuance. I think if they wanted the bust that bad, they'd be watching your residence to see when you were home. There are so many variables and I don't mean to make you more paranoid, but if all of your instincts scream that it's a set up, then listen to yourself, those are the things that keep us allive. Find a domestic source, not foolproof, but less worry. In any case, clean your house if you're really worried and listen to your gut.

In all honesty, my guess is that you will have a second notice from the PO and that when the PO employee went to look for your package, it was on the mail truck again. Your scenario is similar to one I went thru and I can tell you I felt just like you. Unfortunately this is the game I, we, you play and anything can happen.

well, first off, international tracking usually never works in my experience, so i'd say you are good to go
