Ok i have started researching the 5x5 here recently and am going to give it a try. My question is can i add just one isolation exercise to the workout. I understand the concept is to focus on compound lifts but for example I plan to compete in the bench press and know that my triceps are a weak point. So my idea was to add a ticep isolation exercise on the bench days, nothing high volume maybe 3 sets of 5. What do you guys think?

I personally would not.

Your tris will get plent of work in the chest and delt exercises

If you're going to do it, do it on the 3rd day.

That way you have 2 days of nothing to recover and heal before benching again on Day 1.

5X5 is great. I just started doing it again and it is something I cycle back to after a hypotrophy phase. I use the push pull concept. Bench is push. BacK row is pull. Chest and back, bi and tri, legs by themselves, shoulders and abs. You get the picture. You will definately love 5X5 if you do a tempo of 3 secs negative, hold for one second and then explode. You can use heavy, heavy weights doing it and give your self 90 to 120 seconds rest betweeen your set. I promise if you do that you will feel the burn and pump. I swell up big time doing this.
