Put all my shit back in the Yaris liftback (with easy rear entry) so I guess I'm not trading it in

Considered the following:
Silverado Pickup - about $18k with rebates, but will get "a" raped at the gas pump
Grand Marquis - same as Silverado, presently $6k rebate on 07 models
Fusion/Milan - blind spots, decent offering for $20k range, shares platform with Mazda 6. Sweet 6 speed AT on V6 version.
Impala - great ride and decent mpg for a full size sedan in the $20k range, but will get "a" raped on resale thanks to rentals and fleet sales
Accord - poor owner reviews, but it's due to redesign in a few months (2008)
Camry - redesigned this year and has more quality problems than ever in it's history, including AT probs

Both of those are going to be huge improvements for GM.
In the case of the Saturine Astra, it's just a straight import of the German Opel Astra with Saturine badges. And the Malibu is also based on a German Opel platform.
In the future, Saturn is going to be the GM division to watch, because their product line is going to be the same as GM's German Opel division, model for model. That's the long-range plan for Saturn anyway.

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you that is the ONLY thing that I don't like about my fusion. The rear blind spots are BIG, and the back windshield sits sort of high, so it is hard for me to see over the back end very well.PICK3 said:

That was 30 years ago. Things change. They've had to get at least reasonably good in order to remain competitive in their home market, against rivals such as VW, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, SEAT, Skoda, Ford...
GM has pretty much given up on developing passenger cars in the USA. Except for a few lingering older products, platform development for passenger cars has been passed off to their German and Australian divisions. Cadillacs will probably continue to be developed here only because there's no demand outside of the US, Canada, and Arab countries, for cars above a certain size. The only thing GM USA can do well anymore is truck development, and the Corvette.
So most normal-size GM cars will have chassis architecture that comes from Opel (or Holden in Australia for the rear-wheel-drive models), with Americanized bodies and interiors. Saturn, on the other hand, will be selling the German designs as they appear in Germany, changing pretty much only the badge.
That Saturn Astra is the same as an Opel Astra or Vauxhall Astra. The rest of Saturn's range of products will be synchronized with Opel's product line over the next half-decade or so.
