pushups and benchpress

Will adding pushups increase my chest mass or will it overlap with the mass I acquire with benchpressing?

I'd like to do about 3 sets of pushups on off days because my chest doesn't seem to be growing too well from low-reps/high intensity.

Can I add pushups on non workout days without worrying about overtraining?

you can do pushups any time you want. i used to do them all the time and never felt overtrained. They will help you're bench some and brings out the meat under your pits.

Think of it as a bench press with about 70% of your bodyweight. If you reckon that you can do 70%-bodyweight bench press on your off-days then you should be able to do pushups.

pushups = caca

:)

if u wanna get big, train heavy, well, heavier then a pushup

u wouldnt train for a 700 squat by squatting 225 for 100 reps.

apply that to the bench press..

not growing is lack of protein and carbs, poor diet, any one* can grow with proper nutrition and exercise.

Push ups with feet 1-2 feet off florr works well for the shoulders/back /triceps/pecs. I do pushups first thing in the morning everyday.

Push-ups will utilise about 60% of your bodyweight if performed correctly and will involve the chest (pectoralis major), anterior deltoid, and the triceps. To get better resistance and development, have a spotter place a weighted plate on your back. If you are going to use this exercise then it should be during your normal workout routine and not on off days.

If your chest isn't developing as you would like then try adding Pull-Overs at the end of your routine. It is a good way of expanding the chest cavity and adding extra girth.

Pull Overs: Position your shoulders on the leading edge of a flat bench and your feet, at shoulder width, firmly on the floor. Keep your hips lower than your shoulders throughout the movement. Take a dumbbell and hold it up and over your head with your hands flat against the plate. Inhale deeply and lower the weight down and behind your head. Go as low as you can and feel the full stretch. Raise the weight back up to the starting position and repeat.

Watch your diet too as many guys will put their lack of developement down to a particular exercise or routine and not realise that they are not feeding their development correctly.

I just used my bathroom scales to get percentages of bodyweight. I weigh 123.4 Kg today and the weight on my hands was 86.2 Kg at the bottom and 80.1 Kg at the top

This gives a percentage varying between 65 and 70.

it'll only make the chest more fuller.

Like that with the scales mate - clever...

The good thing about pushups that no-one has mentioned yet is that they require you to keep your body rigid (in a straight line) for the duration of the set, and unlike the BENCH press, your hands are flat on the floor causing it to be a closed chain exercise. I would propose that beginners (or people with poor core strength or coming back from injury) would therefore benefit more from pushups than the flat bench.

To make pushups harder, elevating the feet is fairly effective, haowever this alters the angle - making it more like an incline press (not a bad thing really).

Pushups where the hands are placed on one or two small medicine balls and the feet are on a bench are real asskickers! I personaly like doing regular pushups for 3 reps and then 2 clapping pushups. I can do about 50 in this cadence before the for breaks down.
