PushPress good for shoulder strength?

do both standing overhead press (for foundation, tendon and slow strength) and push presses for power, explosive and reactive strength

do some paused overhead presses for starting strength - 3-4 sec pause at the bottom

What sort of set combination would you reccomend?
how many sets
of standing overhead press and how many pushpress sets?
which ones should i preform first?

All of my shoulder work is standing. I either use a bar, a log, or the viking press.

You use a bit heavier weight then you can handle with conventional military and basically push it up using a bit of leg drive and then catch yourself underneath the bar with a good base.

I would start with normal presses first with a set or two of paused sets.

do this for a 3 weeks. then when your ready do the push presses in one workout, and then in the next do the normal overhead presses and paused sets.

sets I'll leave that up to you, but I would stay under 6 reps.

Yes. Push presses are excellent for building strength, size, and power in the delts. Push presses require balance and the use of numerous stabilizer muscles. Pressing heavy weight over head in a standing position is a difficult task, but if you can master it. . . be prepared for an upsurge in strength and mass.

Make sure not to go to heavy, as this will put much strain on very delicate shoulders. I like to warm up my rotator cuffs a bunch before doing them, just as a precaution.

cheers

yes, warmup is critical. I do single plate raises with a 10lb plate in each hand raise them up slow, then in a slow circular motion, i do these in between sets to keep the muscles warm.

I might add that when I lift I always dress warm, even though it may not be cold, but im a firm believer in heat. If you can keep your muscles warm the better off you are.

I remember trying standing barbell presses for the first time. Its un-natural at first if your use to back support, but make you strong IT WILL!!!
