Push Press Question

PopeyePower

New member
When I do my push presses I get a huge power increase over my regular overhead press with just a slight dip of my knees, then I just explode enough to get on my tip toes.....this feels good and I get a lot of power on these......but I noticed a lot of people do them with a jump.....it looks like a push jerk, except they press out the weight at the top of course......my question is if my form is alright to use or if I should get some air......like I said, my strength is good on these, so I am not frustrated or anything but I just want to make sure the technique I use is proper....if not I will correct it ASAP........

depends on your goals

for Vert jump training and total body explosivness then yes you should jump, it makes it similar to squat jumps in effect.

But if your doing it for general strength and power then you should stay on the ground.

The weight you use has a bearing on this too. Heavy weights keep you on the ground, even though your intent is to explode off the ground.

I try to push so hard with my legs that I catch the bar at the top...
