a friend of mine said that arnold was one of the first to introduce Primobolan - methenolone - to the bb scene in the states. anyone else hear this? and is there any truth to it? it was mentioned that in an interview arnold was quoted as saying he loved Dianabol - methandrostenolone - and Primobolan - methenolone - . nelson, have you heard of this supposed interview??

oh, and BTW- that movie rocks! good motivation movie, feeling like your having a bad week, watch that show, then go to the gym, you'll feel way better.

I've spoke of this a million times but I guess it's become a history lesson worth repeating.

I can't reveal the names and of course no one knows what went on behind closed doors, but reliable sources have said that Arnold was one of the first guys to really push the envelope by doing 50 mgs of dball and a 100mg shot of Primmo ED. That was OUTRAGEOUS at the time. Other guys like Danny Padillia supposedly only did dball as did many others. Oliva said his fav stack was 200 mgs of decca a week and 25 mgs of Winstrol - stanozolol a day. Draper said he just used Winstrol - stanozolol. Zane was said to like moderate amounts of Primmo and Winnee and Armour thyroid.

No one used gh - growth hormone (somatropin) - , diuretics, insulin, Clenbuterol, or Clomid.

And I can hear it now...everyone thinks the stuff was stronger back then. Nope. These guys were the genetic elite of the time and they trained far harder than the guys today. "Overtraining" wasn't in their vocabulary. The solution to any weakness was MORE training. And that's the sobering truth.

so overtraining is a myth proposed by those fearful of hard work?

I think to a great degree. One can certainly overtrain but you have to push yourself to see where that is. And again, the genetic elite respond to more training. Many can not. Then again, there are those who respond well to drugs. People who don't think the answer is more drugs. it's a waste. You'll only utilize so much.

When I first got my hands on the Modern Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding 16 years ago I tried my hardest to do the high volume training. Obviously that was my 1st experience with weights and it was way too much but as I advanced I could never recover quick enough to do it. For example my chest would be sore and tight that 1.5-2 days later when chest rolled around again I could barely move the bar (little exaggeration). I tried it again when I first experimented with steroids. I thought there was no such thing as overtraining with steroids (how wrong I was) and I still couldn't recover to do the program. Now I use a modified Dorian Yates HIT program with alot of drop sets. Seems to work well for me but I struggle within and it seems contrary to my instincts which tell me to do high volume double split.

Thoughts?

To me, being sore for two days just means I had a good workout.

I don't think you should train high volume all the time but I think now and then you have to keep it real and push it. I constantly train using different techniques. I have a chapter in BOTTOM LINE BODYBUILDING about instinctive training that explains this. You have to learn what works best and when. That requires trying a lot of things and at different times.

hey someone was telling me that they did use hgh back then but i told him the stuff wasnt even invented yet but he insisted that it was....he told me u can tell because all of the guys had a gap between their teeth from their jaws growing from the hgh lol...found that kind of funny but they all do have gaps in their front teeth

you were following arnolds "advanced contest training" where he hit everybody part once every two days.
arnold even says in his book that is for someone just before a contest and has been training for years to bring out the seperation and definition in the muscles.
seems like you should have givin arnolds intermediate training a shot it was hitting the muscles every 4th day
with a exception to calves ,forarms and biceps every second day or when they were brought up to match the rest of the body
