Pullups: overtraining?

Hi, I was just wondering if doing pull ups 2 - 3 times a week inconsistently could be considered overtraining. I do a lot of swimming and I feel the wide grip pull ups really work the same muscles, so I was wondering if i could just "randomly" do a few sets of pull ups here and there, nothing too serious.

Throw on a dip belt and a 25lb or 35lb weight and see how many sets it takes you to complete 25 pullups. It should gradually take less and less sets. Pullups are a great exercise my friend.
 
I do 3 sets of pullup's on wed, I am training on the Madcow 5 x 5. I do them after dead lift, before my abs.
