Pull ups

I am sure the sore stomach is caused from the abdominal wall stretching or it could be from thrusting the legs upward as you pull upward. The is basically a vertical reverse crunch in a hanging position. If this is the case focus on keeping your legs motionless and let your upperbody do the pulling.

My favorite grip reverse shoulder width pull-ups.

to perform pullups with control (i.e. with no swaying or kicking) you will be using core muscles (i.e. abs) to keep your body steady through the motion of the rep. i find that my abs do get tired when i do pullups, and i can feel it even more in my abs when my back gets closer to failure.

Palms away from you grip emphasizes the back most- palms in towards you grip places more emphasis on bis, i believe. I definitely feel it more in my back with my palms out :)

These guys have some strong points. Keep it slow and gradual. do not let your body swing until your last few forced reps. Mix some towels in there would ya'? lol.
