I just started using them a month ago. Very pleased with them. I got the ion exchange whey protein unsweeted and unflavored. I mix 80 grams with 8 oz. water in blender a drink with ease, no sweetener flovoring or anything. Doesn't taste nearly as bad as you might think. I often make my own concoctions too. I have also purchased from the protein factory: maltodextrin, dextrose, fructose, and cassienate protein. The maltodextrin and dextrose are supposed to have the same glycemic index (100 I think). The only difference is that the dextrose tastes very sweet and the maltodextrin doesn't taste sweet at all. I use them before/after workout. Yesterday I mixed 40 grams ion whey protein, 40 grams dextrose, and about 1/3 pack cherry koolaid powder. I waited till right before my last excercise to mix with cold water. Shook it up and by the time I got done with my last set it had dissolved down real nice and tasted pretty damn good. Last night I mixed 80 grams cassienate, 40 grams ion whey, 1 cup vannila ice cream, and 1/2 cup blueberries. It tasted like shit. I mean it tasted like someone blended coarse sand into my shake. I can drink some pretty nasty shit, but I couldn't drink it. I guess the 80 grams of cassienate was too much. I wanted to use it before bed because of the slower absorption of cassienate. I'll cut it back to 40 g casseinate and 80 ion whey tonight and see how it works.
I really like making my own supplement, though. I have always been plagued with digestive problems. It seems to help when I have more control over what is in the supplement and can figure out which part gives me bloat, indigestion, or whatever.
