Protein whey & weight gain???

Hello everyone!

I have a question on protein whey, i hope it isn't a dumb question to ask, but can taking protein whey cause weight gain??? Especially if there is sucrolose in it, those kinds of sugars, wouldn't they cause a change in weight? I noticed that i'm gaining weight and i only added this protein whey and it has sucrolose in it and i'm taking several scoops a day. It looks like water weight gain on my lower portion, my butt and hamstrings, also i'm puffy in my stomach. Can anyone please give me some feedback on what they know? Thx a lot! Oh, i tried looking for threads but i didn't see any, maybe i didn't look hard enough, does anyone know of any past threads on this topic???

I've never had problems w/ sucralose. What is "several scoops a day"? Is it increasing your cal intake? What is the content of the whey protein --- protein, fat, carb & calories? How many meals are made up of this protein? Always better to keep it to really no more than 1/day because you are much better off eating real food. Otherwise, just if you have made a change to your diet you may get a bit of a rebound while you are body adjusts to it. Are you bloating from this protein (i.e. gassy)?

And also just to check, is it "that time of month" that you might happen to be retaining water right now? And has your bodyfat changed at all since you started this protein?

Well....

whey sure helps build muscle.....

so unless you have a bodyfat caliper test....

ok, i had to check my calendar to see when my period is coming & check the container of whey. When this swelling began last night i'm due in 9 days or so for my period. Wouldn't that be too early for all these symptoms? I think i'm pmsing too early, dont know? I did have uncontrollable cravings last night, and ate a full bowl of pb ice cream, 1 tbsp of npb and one bowl of processed cereal. All junk! I couldn't stop. I began the dietex 6 days ago, guess it didn't kick in yet, it helped me 2 mo. ago greatly during my period and b4hand. I should have started it earlier but i didn't think i would get these symptoms so soon. I feel so depressed after eating that junk last night, really blew my diet, i was eating so clean & i felt so proud of myself cause i havent eaten processed foods in more than a month; i used the weekends for just fueling days, no junk. My periods have gotten worse since i've gotten older, & i'm told they will get worse until menopause, yipee! I tried everything-bc pills, the patch, diaphrahm, and now natural progestrone. I feel so discouraged, there's nothing out there to help me. On the other hand, i looked @ the Nitro-Tech whey i'm using, and it has per scoop, 100 cal., total fat 1.5 gr., total carbs 4g., and 20g. of protein. I was taking 1-3 scoops a day. Yesterday i had 3 scoops, 2 for breakfast & 1 for p/w/o. I do get a little puffy after i take it, in my belly. Thought i should go off of it for 5-7 days & see if the bloating goes away. One question i have is, will i be decreasing my gains in the gym if i don't take whey at all? Another question i have is, to get rid of excess water from that time of the month, i read that juniper berry is a good natural dieretic to rid excess water or take Taraxatone from Cytodyne? Never took either of these, but would love to get rid of this excess water. Also thought of going back to Dierux, another natural dieretic for montly symptoms & draining water. Has anyone taken the juniper berry or the Taraxatone? I know alot of people would love to take a magic pill for fat loss, but geez, i'd love to take a cure all for my pmsesing and cramps & all this crap i go through! I know i posted alot of questions & discussed my monthly woohs (sp?) in detail, but i am stressing & i've tried everything there is & still no relief. My pms symptoms have gotten worse over the past 5 yrs so it has been very hard for me to stay lean & keep my weight @ a consistent #. A pt @ my gym is consistently encouraging me to compete, but ugh, i never could cause of my health problems w/ my periods, fat days as i call them, cramps & all. I often wonder if there are other bb's or fitness ladies who go through this crap & how do they look good? Cause i never had all these problems yrs. ago and was very lean, didn't have these uncontrollable cravings, & difficulty maintaing weight. Thx for all your replies & suggestions cause i really need to hear what others have to say. I really am desperate to get my periods under control. :p

Can't anyone help me out about these products- juniper berry and/or Taraxatone to rid excess water? Has anyone tried them or know anything about them? Are they effective, anyone, Sassy? thx :worried:

Where you just PMS'ing in your post there? Man...that was really long and I couldn't find anything there after I read it that answered Sassy's questions she asked you.

First, look at your diet. If its crap then of course your going to gain weight. One can't just take a couple scoops of protein, eat a crummy diet and expect for magic to happen.

- What's in your protein - protein/carbs/fat...grams each?
- What are you eating at each meal (simply - no novels)
- What is your weight and can u get your bodyfat measured (caliper test)
- Are you taking water pills or thermogenics before trying to control your metabolism with nutrition?

Answer the questions simply and you'll get some good advice. Take care.

BTW - wasn't trying to be nasty, I'm just a that type of person, just to the point that's all. :)

I don't know about juniper berry. Tarax is basicaly uva ursi + dandelion root - its usualy used as a 10 day cycle to arrive at water loss i.e. prior to competition. I've never used it for anything other than immediately pre-comp.

As far as water retention, I tend to blow up big time if I load particularly ice cream and shit like that. One day won't blow your diet and no you don't need to have whey in your diet to maintain your gains. I"m sorry I havent' had any time to browse the board to see if you've posted your current diet or not. Like QS said - often its easy to focus on one particular thing in your diet & wonder if that is the cause of why you cant' lose weight or whatever, when it might be that you are making progress but you only view the progress in terms of significant weight / bodyfat loss on a short term or just your whole level of "clean diet" is not agressive enough to get those significant changes.

Can you post up your diet or link to where it is & we can review it? What are your curretn total cals, macronutrient breakdown?
