protein powder

It depends on your goals. Whey protein powder is best for post workout. Casein protein powder is best for night time. Check out needtobuildmuscle.com to see some good protein powders.
 
I like whey protein and buy from bulkfoodsdirect.com. So that's what I recommend. Whey is definitely best for post workout.
 
whey isolate. for first thing in the morning while your getting ready to eat, and post w/o. eat real food before bed.

as someone else mentioned needtobuildmusle.com has one that im waiting to try. it looks extremely promising its called muscle replenisher.

not all protein is the same even if its whey there are several different kinds and a couple of them are damn near worthless. what ever you get make sure the whey is iso.
 
i think cottage cheese or eggs are better before bed for two reasons:
-I cant see a shake filling you up much at all, even thought the amino acids digest slowly in casein I would still feel hungry after
-Even though casein is said to be very slow digesting and apparently takes up to 7 hours to digest, a food will take longer to digest because your body has to break it down, but the casein is already in a liquid, so if you took something like cottage cheese which is 80% casein protein, it should take even longer because it is more solid than a shake. I know its still just a slop of liquid and those lumpy bits but a better example would be eggs which would need to be broken down and are slow digesting. Also consumping some fats with the food will slow it down and eggs are purely fats and protein, making them ideal. I usually have cottage cheese and a handful of nuts before bed...
 
Whey is useless unless its right after workout. Casein is good before bed. Id honestly just take whey post workout, casein before bed and all other protein from milk/meat/eggs. I sip on milk all day and it has casein in it. Red meati s anabolic. Eggs keep you full
