Gonna bump this back up but I needed to talk to my dad so I could get this info for you. My dad, who is 78 now, was sent to a urologist by his family doc because of a nodule he felt on his prostate during a physical. This was when my dad was 65yrs old. His psa was 1.4 & the urologist said with psa that low I think you're ok. Dad insisted on a biopsy cause he wanted to know for sure. They took 6 samples & 4 of them came back positive for prostate cancer. 3 different docs checked the samples. Dads prostate was 21% cancerous meaning early stages & it was most likely confined to just the prostate. They did surgery & removed it & he is still alive & cancer free @ 78. I asked him about how painful the biopsys were & he said on a scale of 1-10, 10 being most painful, it was a 3 or 4. He said it was uncomfortable but not too aweful bad. They clipped 6 samples. The urologist said he'd never seen anyone with psa that low be positive for cancer so dont bank on a low psa reading. However, my dad also knows a man with a psa of 20 & has never had cancer & is alive & well today so there are exceptions. Hope this helps.
