Proposed New Features for Platinum and Regular Members -- Comments Please

We are developing new features for the boards and would like to know your thoughts.

Feature One:
If a certain number of Platinum members give a non-Platinum member negative karma -- the non-Plat member is banned for a certain number of days or possibly forever. The goal here is to share moderator power with you guys -- our best members.

Feature Two
Each Platinum members get his own discussion board under a heading "Platinum Member Boards" or something like that. This will be an option Platinum Members can enable in their Profile. A Platinum Member can moderate the posts on his own board. A Plat Member can choose his board's name. The board with the most recent activity will be the 1st board in the list of member boards.

Feature Three
Platinum Members can customize their own titles. Don't like being a "Good Broly," pick a new title of your own.

Feature Four
New Skins -- with special skins for Platinum.

Feature Five
A Platinum member who gets a friend to go Platinum, get's a free month.

Feature Six
We want to improve the picture system so members can opt to have their pictures rated in a system like: http://www.amihot.com/

Feature Seven
We would like to be able to have a contest with members voting for a Mr. Internet and a Ms. Internet. This would need to work with the picture system. What would be the most fair way for this to happen. There will be a big cash prize.

Feature Eight
We would like to create a friendster.com style networks among our members. Please check this out: http://www.friendster.com/

dont liek feature one, members can hit the negative karma button more than one time if they don't like a member and their is ALOT of new b flamming here, new b's ask stupid questions. its just apart of life, they are hear to learn and i wouldn't want to see some one trying to learn something get banned for asking somethign that may seem stupid to some oen more expeiriencd,

2: i like feature 2, i would probably become a plat member if that was the case. i love the web site ad i am in it for the long haul so me becomming a plat member is just a matter of time any way. lol

George, howabout a "quote tracking" system, where if anyone quotes a post of yours in their repy, you are notified, and can click a link to a page that lists all of the links to posts by members who have quoted you in their replies.

This will make it very easy to keep track of people who want to obviously discuss things further with you.

Feature two: Sounds like something that could become similar to the chat board, ie: just another form of needless popularity contests. With board moderators being given the added power to vindictively moderate each other. Sure it could go other ways, but not sure I like this one.

Feature three: Sure that sounds fun. Get ready for all the titles to start looking like the locations though ie: "I own so-and-so <other member name>". Really though, I like this one, I don't want to be a broly...

#1 My idea was letting three, five, or perhaps eight, negative karma hits from three, five, or eight diffferent Platinum Members ban someone. You are already a Platinum member, so there would be no additional charge. This gives our members power to ban the trolls.

#2 My idea would be to let someone have his own board about a subject that he is an expert on. Say Dr. Nadler was Platinum and he created his own board on liposucton and gyno removal. Kinda like we did for Rick Collins, only any Platinum Member can have a board.

#6 Getting rated will be optional.

Good point although Nelson's Platinum so he could not be banned -- how can we keep this from happening to good but controversial non-Platinum members? I was thinking of this feature mainly for trolls.

Perhaps you could make it so that a person had to receive their 8 negative hits from 8 members within a 24-48 hour period- that way you know they are doing something atrocious or continuously acting this way and not just bothering a few people over a period of time...

Of course it would still put some of the more controversial members in danger... I think you have to decide if this is the risk you want to take or not....

I don't think that there is any way to prevent abuse, unless you hold each member accountable for any negative karma they send out. That would require a lot of effort on your staff's behalf to track down why one member gave another bad karma. Effort that could be spent on other things. To me, simply disagreeing with someone's view should not be enough to ban someone, even for just a day, and right now some people give out bad karma just for that.


To be honest, I would rather see the karma system go away, than to go with the idea of temporarily banning paople for a certain number of bad karma hits.

#1 is a bad idea George. The karma system sounded great when you first introduced it, and now looked what happened. This doesn't sound good to begin with.

Unfortunetely, elite lost its "anabolic" edge a long time ago.

Require that the negative karma come from unique members and in a limited period of time definitely sounds good. Perhaps even require that the karma results from multiple posts by that user not just the result of one unpopular idea voiced on a single thread or posting.

Could also limit the frequency and total number of times that members can even invoke this banning. For instance, maybe only once every week or two or three could negative karma result in an automatic and temporary banning of a day or two or so....

I think also this could potentially be a problem- as you could get loose-cannon plats bombing all the newbs with red and the newbs not having any say in it... There should be some kind of repercussions for plats, or it will turn the board into a plat vs non-plat war all the time...

Good ideas on all of these. Although I am not a plat (sorry, I'm a poor college student with a random income!) I believe in keeping the plats happy. They support the board.

I think feature two a neat idea, I'm willing to bet that the novelty will wear off when individual's personal boards get lost giant tangles of overabundant options.

These last three are bound to be popular. I'd be especially interested in feature eight if it has provisions for catagories/interests of friends in the network.

This is a GREAT idea... That way any of the newbs that want to attack everyone will get banned right away... (and let's face it this is a majority of the problem people) but if ther person has been around for a while, they cannot get banned for one or two inflamatory posts... I would put the number of posts at at least 500, and maybe even 1000...

How about 2 forms of Karma a punishment type and a banning type. That way some people get checked for their behavior others get booted.

To further expand on this. Maybe there could be a board just for "warned" members that can be like a "prove yourself" area.

The posts in question can be discussed with other members. This way when you get negative karma you can say "for what?" and prove it or you`ll be proven wrong with the bad posts you`ve been writing.

Not sure if I made sense, but it can be expanded on and tweaked.

The first thing you should do is get rid of the platinum search restrictions and the "post once evey 15 day thing" or whatever it is. Then if all the platinum members work hard to grow these options above and keep all the BS out of them...... I WOULD SAY ELITE IS BACK ON TRACK AGAIN!!! 1. alanchiras, you are an Elite Mentor, so under the proposed system, you cannot be banned no matter how much negative Karma you get. Ditto for our Platinum Members.

2. Only Platinum Members will have lethal Karma. Regular members will have the same regular karma they have now.

3. thx9000, we will definitely go with your idea about having a time limit for the negative karma banning Here's what I am leaning towards -- 5 negative karma hits from five different Platinum Members in one 24 hour period equals a 24 hour ban. This way, if some new troll comes here the Platinum Members will have to confer on the Platinum Hardcore board and 5 of them would have to agree to ban the member. The occasional negative karma will have no effect other than perhaps hurting the recipients feelings.

Imo this board should be concentrating more on selling supps, look at all the buzz around here about protien factory, BAC, killo sports and the rest of them. Does Ellite fitness even sell supps anymore?

Option one sounds like a "hate on the guy that is not platnum" i feel the whole platnum thing put out all the old guys like myself, who had helped others in the past. TO be honest I think anyone should be able to go platnum but the old members should not be shoes away if they go on vacation.

I really I like the Platinum Ticker feature. I have it running all the time, but (there’s always a but), is there any way for us as users to configure the ticker so that it only displays select forums? For example; I care to view the Anabolic, Platinum, and Fitness boards, but don’t care so much about the Lifestyle and Between The Sheets boards.
