Problem with my shoulder

My right shoulder has been bothering for a couple weeks now. I don't know if it's a rotator problem or what. Yesterday I did a heavy bench session, and I felt no pain during the workout, but afterwards it hurt a lot.

It doesn't hurt when I do flat benches, there's a slight pain on inclines, and a little more pain on overhead presses. But the worst pain is when I do something like reach for the light switch or put my shirt on. Does this sound like a rotator problem? What should I do?

I have been dealing with a rotator cuff "strain" since May. It didn;t hurt all of a sudden (no pop during any lift), this uncomfortable pain just crept into it. I tried taking a few weeks off and eventually (much too late) saw a doc, got some anti-inflamatories and went to physical therapy for a month. right now I am using a great strengthening program that was suggested to me (thanks PolishHammer - http://www.dolfzine.com/page391.htm) and I won't be 100% til 2004. If I was you I would take a few days or maybe more off and rest it, ice it, and see how it feels. Stretch the shoulder b4 nd after workout. If you still have problems go see a doc.

What part of the shoulder does the pain came from? Is it the side/rear?? My shoulders have been feeling irritated after doing the flat bench. The pain starts at the side of the shoulder and radiates all the way down into my forearms. Things like lifting my arm to the side hurt. I think mine is the bicep tendon though, not the rotator cuff.

Seems like I have a new injury every week. Frustrating....:(

I tend to battle bouts of biceps tendonitis up near my shoulder. It often even hurts to the touch, beneath my deltoid. Rest usually gets me back in action.

Always stretch before working out, also that sounds like what i have, "Shoulder Impingement" . its when the bone is touching bone inside the rotator cuff. It hurts like a bitch after the workout and much less during the workout.

Sometime my shoulder feels a bit dry and very hot to the touch.

All I can say is feel better, see your doc while its in early stage, some anti-inflammatories and few exercises in physical therapy might help. All the best and i hope im wrong that its just a strain you have.

Thanks for the responses. This is where I feel the pain (where it's red):

Sometimes when I move my arm I feel something move in there. The pain started on October 16th. The pain comes and goes - today I barely feel it, while yesterday after my bench workout it hurt a lot.

I have been doing internal and external rotations and face pulls before I was injured.

That's where mine hurts too...stretches down into the forearms sometimes.

I'll be avoiding things like barbell presses, wide-grip pull-ups and pull-downs for a while to see if the pain subsides.

i've been dealin with the same issue and it came from "weak" rear-delts. i'm strengthening those as well as doing speed benches and high-reps on db benches. i'm still able to do back work a lot as well as squats. lots of rear-delt work as well as rotator cuff work...especially before benching. i hope this helps. tb

dont strecth before you lift, warm up the muscle with light rotator exercises and stretch after your workout. stretching before could cause more harm then good. I compair stretching a cold muscle to stretching a cold elastic, try it and see the result

Bum deal. I guess I'll back off for a few weeks. How's this group of exercises:

Barbell Rows
Barbell Shrugs
Light Pulldowns

Light Benches
Light Board Work ok or no??
Light lockouts ok or no??

DB Bench
Flyes
Dips
DB Overhead Press
rear laterals
side laterals
front barbell raises
face pulls

Reverse Curls
Hammer Curls

Squats
Deads
Good Mornings
SLDL

I'm taking Ibuprofen and rubbing in Ben Gay.

i would try icing it twice a day, takin aleve(i personally respond better to this) and takin bengay to help it. funny, you got the same issue as mine..its my right shoulder as well...and it seems to have happened when i did MM training. that fuckin sucks!! tb

hey Mike, do your shoulders roll forward when you bench? I have some annoying shoulder pain in the same place and figured out that rolling my shoulders was causing it. I'm starting to think the flat bench and barbell ohp aren't the healthiest lifts for the shoulders.

yay for impingement :(

I don't think my shoulders roll forward.

It's funny, there's always some problem. First it was my hip. Everytime I did squats, I would limp for a few days after. I got over that, then my elbow hurt for a couple months. And now the shoulder.

I would say definitely use Aleve as its the best over the counter for anti-inflamatory. Also use a more narrow grip on nearly every exercise, especially something like lat-pulldowns and even on squats. and I disagree with not stretching before a w/o. Try both and see which way feels better. I personally feel a lot better stretching b4 a w/o.
