Pro-Anorexia websites - wtf?

What are the odds there are websites that tell you how to be anorexic when there are ones that tell you how to use steroids. Who would have thought?

Sad state of affairs nonetheless.

I came across this article today and it's very disturbing. I didn't know that there are websites that in essence tells you how to be anorexic...... :bawling:

ProAnorexia Article
It's sad but there are tons of sites like that out there just feeding off young women and girls. Sad sad sad.

Then why do you post on Elite? Because steroid information is commonly passed.

Personally, the issue with anorexia is for more damaging. A site the encourages someone to destroy themselves? Never good. Now, yes, there are those that push heavy amounts of drugs. That isnt a good thing either. But steroids are not inherently bad. I have no issues with anyone using them so long as they watch their health.

"I don't think anorexia nervosa is an addiction, but these sites have the ability to pull them into something that's familiar and comfortable. You want your supportive treatment team to be the strong voice in your head."

f-ing CLUELESS!

Chicks that starve their asses off to make men drool...how can that be a bad thing???
Actually, it's not just "chicks". Jockey's do it too, and it is self destruction. It IS an addiction and is no laughing matter.

I am SO hoping this is a joke, sarcasm or something.

Taking ANYTHING to excess is bad - be it starvation, exercise, steroids, overeating, etc. When health and wellbeing is compromised - it is a problem.

ditto

Have you ever found some & looked at them? I have...
The scariest was the pics of Nicole Ritchie and 'wanting to look like that so bad".. also the lohan gaunt look. kate moss was up there and a few other very THIN models (not saying anything about these celebs/famous people) just that these girls really do look up to them.

Other things I remember ... They help each other binge, what's best way of puking the finger doesnt work anymore , another alternative for ipecac b/c they become immune to it... it's so sad.. so sad they take them down if the ana sites are found

I also just read about a 21 yr old ana girl, model, who recently died.. organ failure.

Another reason IMO that you cannot starve yourself thin b/c your body may just end up eating the organs before getting to that last layer of fat you want off. Too late then eh?

No, actually he has dozens of chauvenistic posts all over the AS board. It's his favorite thing to post. He's dead serious.

On a lighter note... Do you remember Fonz was a moderator on one those eating disorder boards? He used to give advice to those girls on how to stay thin.

It's not just a girl thing. I worked with a guy in So Cal who would binge and purge that's been along time ago. I guess that is bulimia. He Would pig out then go behind the house we were building and puke it all up.......

Let's PLEASE not even go there....

If I let myself get started on the whole health / fitness thing about anorexia, I will never shut up, but the foundation for it is just so much more fundamental and deeper. This is how little control these poor girls feel they have over their lives and they either feel that they deserve to be starved or feel that they aren't good enough unless they starve themselves. No consideration for possibly losing their ability to have children, consideration for their parents watching their children die, no consideration for the amazing things that their bodies & minds can accomplish if they can just step outside of the grip of this. Its just so tragic. Just tragic. I don't even know how you deal w/ it because really the only person who can help them is themselves. But these people who tell them & encourage them to perpetuate it are just manipulating them into a swifter death. I just really can't fathom it and I think I would have to fight the urge to want to kill them myself.

where's the line between dieting and getting anorexic? I mean, if you're eating around 1200-1500 calories a day as diets will often suggest, and very likely hungry, but determined to lose weight, aren't you pushing anorexic behavior?

when you stop socializing because you might have to eat something

400 calories are too many

when starving feels good to you

I guess part of it is how much you weigh. If you weigh 120 and are eating 1200 cals a day of the right food......................

This has some great info on what it means to be diagnosed ana

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_nervosa

I understand what you are saying and I do feel that such a person may be pushing unhealthy behavior that needs to be addressed.

Interesting read for sure since all of the factors can be found in the fitness world involing Psychological, Emotional, Interpersonal and social, Physiological, Behavioural issues with body image and losing 'weight'

Scary stuff. I know some well known contest prep guys that refuse to use that stuff. Very, very dangerous.

That's what I think after reading about anorexia.

Fitday tells me I'm in caloric deficit at 2000 calories per day, and I have to say, that kind of scares me. I'm not sure why: maybe all these anorexia articles and images of Kate Bosworth and others? Women in the media are getting way too thin. It's like a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario.

Fit day is bascially a guide to help you track you foods, caloric output & input... anything made to help can be abused and get a bad name.. just like anything in excess can be harmful.

I do feel alot of it has to do with the behavioral & psychological reasons of what you are doing and why you are doing it in the 1st place. If you are in the right mindset anything is possible.

Everyone will have an opinion and the media is just screaming for headlines.

RE: 2000 calorie deficit, your body is built as a well functioning machine. If at let say, the 1000 calorie deficit mark it realizes that HEY that's too much, YOUR body will respond to it for survival , i.e. maybe storing some of the cals away as fat for food later b/c it's going to munch on your muscle first. So I wouldnt be too scared what fitday says as long as you are properly eating for your activity level, that is the healthy way to do it IMO
