PRICESAVINGS: How Frugal Are You?

What are some of the steps you take to save money?

As for me, I buy tons of generic stuff, such as generic toilet paper, even generic soda. Although, some items I haven't yet went generic with, such as cereal.

I also grab an occassional coupon or two.

Additionally, I frequent Sam's Clubs often, buying in bulk.

You'd also be surprised by the number of quality wines out there at very low prices.

Do any of you have any tips on saving money?

The reason some of us are wealthy is b/c we know how to save money..........It's all about making the dollar go a long, long way.....

I hope you don't expect me to be serious... :D

Well, ok then: Don't drink, don't smoke, don't waste money on drugs or other silly habits, like gambling, porn and any other 'wants' that you may have.

If you are able to enjoy the simple things in life, you'll be astounded how much you can save on crap that you are made to want by our consumer culture.

hardgainer (it's all about life-style, I think)

Come on, serious responses only, please.:)

Shop at mainline grocery stores, when chicken breasts - boneless skinless - are on sale for 1.59 a pound, get them to wrap them in freezer paper / 3 pounds per package.

Wal Mart has the best prices for toilet paper, grocery bags, paper towels, cleaning stuff and detergent. Wait until it is on sale and bust ass with the coupons.

Example:

Toilet paper - don't buy the triple ply stuff, it clogs the toilet up and leaves booty dingleberries - buy the 1 ply, 1,000 sheet per roll - Scott is the best.

Wal Mart had it on sale $2.00 for a 4 roll pack. 50 cent off coupon made it $1.50. That's half the price than the grocery store and it lasts three times longer than triple ply stuff.

Write to companies and tell them you like thier stuff - most send free coupons for their products or int he case of some places they send you cases of new products - best ones - Del Monte and Heinz.

Laugh if you want but I don't spend more than $35.00 a week on groceries - and that includes milk, cereal [at least 4 boxes a week], meat and soda.

Don't buy gallons of water at 99 cents a pop - get off your lazy ass and refill the empty ones for .25 cents. Yearly savings if you drink one gallon a day - $270.10

99 cents a gallon / day = 361.35
.25 cents a gal / day = 91.25

difference = 270.10

I do buy generic. I also downgraded my truck form a Ford F150 XLT, 4x4, Triton V8 to a lousy XL V6 4x2. The payments, insurance and gas are all much cheaper. But, I must say that I did this so I could try to buy a bad ass motorcycle.

Buying generic shit at the grocery store doesn't save much because of all the beef, chicken and fish I eat. I kinda have to pay for what they ask for on that.

I eat at home for lunch, only go out drinkin 2-3 times a month and have no hobbies but lifting.

I am trying to be more frugal. I guess I am in some ways, but on the whole I like nice things. I never skimp on clothes, cars, ect. However, I am going to start. I make good money and so does my partner, but I feel trapped by our expenses and style of life.
