Pre-TRT test = 287, TRT trough test = 92(!!) Wtf?!

So I'm about 10 weeks in on 100mg Test-C every 2 weeks and my doc wanted a trough reading just before my most recent injection which came back at 92. Doc is panicked thinking I might have a pituitary tumor causing the overactive feedback. I've been hearing MRIs, brain scans, and exploratory surgery mentioned. Is there anything else that could be causing my body to cancel out the test so aggressively before I start going in for all this crazy shit? I'm not a real squeamish kinda guy, but brain surgery isn't exactly high on my bucket list. Any thoughts?

I'm no expert but that sounds like too low of a dose and/or too long between injections.

This is one of the reasons I'm reluctant to go to a doc.

I just had a change in doctors, so I'm going through the whole process all over again. The doc gave me 100mg/weekly of Testosterone Cyp and my last blood test came back 282. I just saw her today and she upped it to 200mg weekly. I agree with maxxreps, it's both, too long between injections and it's too small. Your injections should be at least weekly so that you don't have ups and downs.

Get a different doc if he won't up the testosterone and do weekly.

I dont understand your docs panic. If your normal T was low enough to warrant test injections then what does he expect from running 100mg every 2 weeks. 1oomg is enough to cause supression and at 2 week intervals there wont be enough to keep levels elevated hence the low test result.

100mg/wk puts most men in the 500 range or so which is pretty low for TRT. As we age we need more to feel normal so most TRT docs want patients at the high end of the normal lab range (ie >900).

To get to that level most guys need 200mg/wk OR 100mg week with a nice HCG bump of 700units or so 3 days after weekly test injection.

I forgot to specify in the op that his larger concern is from my last round of labs, they came back normal tsh but low lh, fsh, and prolactin in addition to the test being so low. Are such results normal with suppression from being on therapy?

Yes, that is normal. Any time you are suppressed from exogenous test, your FSH and LH will be at or near zero.

Hmm ok that makes sense I guess. Hence the suppression. Well I just rescheduled any further tests until I get a chance to speak with the doc more in depth about it
