get a big tube.... cap one end, put a potato in the other.... have a way to spray hair sprat or something flammable in the closed off portion... light it... get the F out of the way...

My friend had one at a barbecue. We got wasted and fired it at his neighbor's aluminum shed across the street. Good times.

I had a couple, just the PVC variety with grill igniters. Never was crazy enough to use anything other than hairspray, but some Aqua Net makes an apple fly a LONG way.

Man arrested after threatening to shoot potato into girlfriend

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Police arrested a man who allegedly threatened to shoot his girlfriend with a homemade bazooka that shoots potatoes.
Sean McGrath, 30, allegedly told his girlfriend Tuesday night he would "put a potato through" her head using the potato launcher. He also got into a fistfight with her teen-age daughter.
McGrath was to be arraigned Wednesday in Saleme District Court on charges of assault and battery, making threats, and possession of an infernal machine.
Beverly Police Sgt. Michael Sungy said the woman allegedly broke up the fight between McGrath and her 17-year-old then called police about 6:50 p.m. and told them the device was in the basement of their apartment building.
The state police bomb squad investigated. Traces of gunpowder were found near the device, Sungy said.

I fired one that's similar to the first pic. Used lighter fluid instead of hairspray. The fucking potato flew so far I couldn't see where it landed.
There was a report on 60 Minutes a few years ago about some dude who makes custom potato guns and sells 'em to celebrities and the like. I'll see if I can find a link.

I made one a couple years ago , used propane for the fuel , I could shoot a spud through 4 sheets of 5/8" drywall from 30 feet. My buddy also made one just like it and took it to his work and filled it with proplyne {a gas for welding torchs} tried to shoot an apple over the highway but as soon as he hit the ignitor the damn thing blew up on him. He ended up with some stitches on his chin and what looked like road rash along the whole side of his body
