Post-Workout shake

I understand that post workout, your carbs are important as well as protein. I use ISOpure Zero Carb Vanilla. 50grams of protein in 2 scoops...Post workout Ive been mixing it with about 10 ounces of orange juice (tastes like orange creamsicle!) to get my sugar and protein after the gym....Is this alright?
 
You want a good carb source.
If you are going to add sugars Dextrose is the way to go.
You don't want to use low glycemic sugar in your shake.

50 grams of protein/30 grams of carbs is average. Try whey + dextrose...

oj is fructose, not optimal, bthe liver has to convert fructose to glucose, dex=glucose

FIGURE ABOUT 1/4 CUP OF MOST POWDERS WILL YIELD ABOUT 25-30 GRAMS SLIGHTLY OVERFILLED.

1/2 cup filled level will yield right round 50 grams or so.

like stated above oj is not your best choice but if u have nothing else then its better than nothing, u can go to the groc store and get powdered gatorade, which has a fair amount of dex in it, not pure but far better than oj

No! OJ is not good. Just buy dextrose. It's cheap and easy to get.
 
Bro, isopure mass is the way to go post workout. Has the carbs you need. Isopure zero carb is good other times.

NO,bad choice.

2:1 pro/dextose in water for me,simple and good.

FYI....
If you have trouble finding dextose then you can
substitute acouple rolls of sweet tarts..yes,sweet
tarts are all mostly dextose,does the same thing.
But dextose is what you want,like mentioned above.
 
dammit. ive been using OJ for quite a while but recently been looking into getting a bucket of dex powder. man that pisses me off :mad:
 
What type of protein is best for a PWO shake? Say someone was going to customize their own PWO shake at www.trueprotein.com , whats the best type of protein for post workout/? whey isolate ion-exch, whey isolate microfiltrated, whole egg protein, calcium caseinate???? I assume ion-exch but i'm honestly not exactly sure. Also would it be beneficial to add a small amount of casein for a little bit of slower releasing protein???
 
christ...........post workout nutrition is the most beat up complete waste of time posts....if the rest of your diet is in line, you could eat bear shit postworkout and make gains.....I've used them all.....high gi, low, fruit, pro only, shakes, whole foods......DOESNT MAKE ONE DAMN OF A DIFFERENCE......

I LOVE the low gi/high mix with a minimum of 40g whey....do whatever you want...I hate dextrose and malt, so right now it's oats, whey, rice cakes, white rice, cold cereal.....doesn't matter....

you can get a 5lb bag of (NOW) dextrose for @ 3 bucks on any supp. site. I have tried Vitagro...great (faster carb than dextrose) but it's way over priced for the "bang"...like 15x as expensive as dextrose.
