Post workout shake?

Ok, here's the deal. I begin lifting weights at 5am and finish at 6:30am. But I then get on the treadmill for 30minutes. Which means I'm finished at 7am and I don't get home to have my post workout shake until 7:10 - 7:15am. Do I take my post workout shake when I get home at that time??? Or do I take my post workout shake after lifting weights and then get on the treadmill??? Which of course that would really suck!!! Suggestions please.

If I were you I'd take the shake an hour before I workout, then get on the treadmill. If you don't have enough energy, then run on the next day. Thats what I do.

Day 1: Weight training
Day 2: Ab exercise (About 10 different exercises on a mat) and 4 mile jog.

if you drink the shake before cardio your gonna burn those sugars for fuel...if you get right on the treadmill youll hit the fat stores b/c you already worked thru the glycogen and sugars

Ok, after cardio. But right after??? Or can I go home first ( which takes approx 10-15mins ) and then take the shake?

See, I used to that many years ago. I would make the protein shake, put it in a thermos and leave it in the car. Then I would drink the shake right after cardio. But for some reason the shake would taste goddamn fucking awful after being in the thermos for only 2 hours. Still cold! But tasted like damn shit! And the protein shake wasn't that damn bad at all! But I guess from sitting there it would tast awful! And imagine...Im now switching over from a good tasting protein over to Protein Factorys protein. And from what I hear...their shit tastes like shit!

just powder in the shaker, add water at the gym right before you drink it
then you can down it right after you finish cardio

Why not do cardio first, and then workout? Then take the shake after.

Cardio before lifting??????????

You could do cardio in the morning, and lift weights in the afternoon or at night, that's what I do when I'm cutting. I take my protein shake after lifting, not after cardio.

I can ONLY and I mean ONLY workout at in the morning. No other time throughout the day or night. Therefore I have to lift weights, and then do cardio. Some of you are going off the subject. The question was should I take shake immediately after lifting and the do cardio? Or just finish lifting then hit cardio and then drive 15 minutes home and then drink shake. Remember! 30minutes of cardio plus the drive home equals out to 45 minutes. Thats 45 minutes AFTER lifting. I always read that the body should be given protein and carbs NO MORE than 30 minutes after lifting. This is why I asked this question.

I had stopped doing cardio b/c I was afraid of burning muscle vs fat :worried: .. but now I went back to incorporating my cardio w/my workouts....

I do cardio first, then go work out... then right after working out, my shake. Now when I do 5k on the treadmill my workouts totally suck bc I am dead tired... so as of last week, my experiment is cardio for 30 minutes on treadmill but not full out, just jogging, THEN go workout.. it has been working pretty good...

I don't have the time to split the workout in two sesscions in the day, which would be best.

Aren't you guys afraid of burning away the muscle via cardio ?

drink the shake when you get home.......... its only 15 more min. my suggestion would be to make it prior as said earlier but apparently your tastebuds are too sensitive(whats up with that??? hold your nose and chug bro)

30 minutes on the treadmill will negatively affect your strength training.

That is fine if you are not concerned with being really big or really strong though.

As far as WHEN to drink the shake...do what I do. I go to the gym, lift, do cardio for 30 minutes, then I drink the shake that I put in my soft cooler and brought to the gym with me. Problem solved.

cardio will affect my strength for training AFTER I'm done lifting?! What?!

Try taking a scup of protein just before working out, it will prevent your body from tapping into your glucose stores when you will get to your cardio, and another protein shake with in the hour that fallows cardio,... it will help you recuperate faster

Not what I said at all. Doing cardio BEFORE your lifting will affect your strength when lifting.

The kind of cardio you do also affects when you should have PWO drink. I thought it was,
low intensity= wait longer,
high Intensity= drink right away... or something like that. That does`nt directly answer your question but is something to consider in your plan.
