whats more important for your food post workout

getting a crazy amount of cals down, or getting quality clean foods down?

depends on what you want to do with your body. If you are cutting down which is usually after compound training then only clean food and protiens. If you are in compounding mode, then stuff as much as you can. You better! For now i am going crazy on cals. God bless.

Whether bulking or cutting, it's important to get some simple carbs to give you an insulin spike and replenish glycogen stores PW. A lot of people use dextrose/whey to get the job done. Eating a whole meal with complex carbs/fats is not necessarily a good idea.

is a banana and whey right after you workout and then a can of tuna with oatmeal about an hour to an hour and a half later good?

Whey is a fast digesting protein source and is a great choice post workout. I have read that fructose, the sugar found in fruit, will not restore muscle glycogen, but will instead replenish glycogen in the liver. You are basically looking for any carbohydrate with a high glycemic index. You can order dextrose cheap online, something like 5 bucks for 2 lbs. Yes, after letting your shake digest, eating a meal such as tuna/oats is good. Hope this helps.

i thought bananas are high GI carbs though? :worried: what happens if i eat it after workout and it replineishs glycogen in the liver- is that code for making me fat?

any second opinions?

A good addition for post w/o is instant oatmeal. The instant kind is a higher gi carb than long cook and those type of oatmeal have more sugar in them to help replenish those glycogen stores.
You can buy powders specifically designed for post w/o.

Be careful about asking for a second opinion........
Last time I asked my doctor if I should get a second opinion, he said that I was ugly, too.

what about table sugar with whey for post workout instead of dextrose?

check out the nutritional contents on the back of your table sugar package..... no carbs or cals. Not gonna do the job of dextrose.

ummm..sugar def. has cals., which all come from carbs. 1 tsp. of table sugar is bout 15 cals..4g. of sugar. but table sugar isn't as good as malto and dex. because it is half fructose which refills liver glycogen and won't be as helpful for your muscles.

No. Banana's are rich in fructose, which is primarily used to fill liver glucogen, NOT muscle glycogen. A banana post workout is like sucking a tit through a sweater.
