Post Somthing Positive (Preferabley Something Both Positive AND Interesting)

I haven't kept up with the recent dramas, nor do I really care to.

Post something interesting in this thread so I don't have to keep sorting through drama-locked threads here in C&C.

Don't bring any BS into this thread or I will make sure to red you.

Thanks and have a nice day,

:cow:,

I don't even know what's been going on lately, and I've been here every bloody day. I'm just sick of all this internal BS. I want to read something interesting here... if it takes half my karma, so be it!

Umm.... yeah, sorry, it's a little thing betwixt three or four of us here. We just didn't want to bring it out to the open, lol.

I think only me, Hotzie and RedGuru know about it.

Health Savings Accts are gonna be the wave of the future.

Info on Health Savings Accounts

The new health savings account legislation was signed into law by President Bush on December 8, 2003. The new HSA is really the "next generation" of MSA plans. Although some aspects of the program remain the same, there are some important changes. Perhaps most importantly, ALMOST EVERYONE qualifies for the new HSA plans!

1. Lower deductibles are available (1,000 single/2,000 family)
2. Up to 100% of the deductible amount can be contributed to the HSA
3. And...ALMOST EVERYONE will qualify for the HSA!

Details on the HSA
A health savings account is a tax-sheltered savings account similar to the IRA, but earmarked for medical expenses. Deposits are 100% tax-deductible for the self-employed (and now almost everyone with the HSA) and can be easily withdrawn by check or debit card to pay routine medical bills with tax-free dollars. Larger medical expenses are covered by a low-cost, high deductible health insurance policy. What is not used from the account each year stays in the account and continues to grow interest on a tax-favored basis to supplement retirement, just like an IRA--it's a medical IRA (we think that is the really cool part!).
When combined with a low-cost, high deductible health insurance policy (required), the health savings account is meant to replace a traditional high-cost health insurance policy (with its low co-pays and mountains of restrictions on medical choices). A health savings plan will restore a high degree of freedom of choice by allowing you to choose your own physician (typically from an extensive PPO directory) without the extensive restrictions imposed by HMO-type plans.
Here's how it works, in a nutshell. Take the money currently spent on a high cost traditional health plan and split it like this: Put a portion towards a low cost higher deductible policy and deposit the balance into a tax-deductible HSA.
The savings accounts should be used to help pay smaller covered medical expenses until the deductible is met; should the need arise, the high deductible insurance policy takes care of covered medical expenses exceeding the deductible.

Also, do they make Memory Stick (the Sony proprietary ones) over 128MB? Not Pro or Duo, but just regular Memory Stick?

I got an ICD-BM1 and it says it doesn't take over 128MB Memory Stick (or Duo), but not Pro.

I hate computers.

Dextromethylphenidate, where methylphenidate = ritalin.

I theorized that the adderall/amphetamine might be causing some of the problems with my ear post-op, so I switched to something less stimulatory. I'm still looking for somthing that works as good as clonopin, but is non-narcotic. The Neurontin (gabapentin) hasn't worked as well as expected. And the Lyrica was a horrible, horrible drug :worried:

Really? I'm totally new to this class of drugs. Apparently the only way to calm cranial nerve damage is the anti-epilepsy class of drugs, which Neurontin and Lyrica both fall under.

Jeez, and I've never even had anything close to a seizure and the docs and surgeons are putting me on all this crap....

Computers will play a bigger role in scientific analysis soon, say experts.

http://www.physorg.com/news65973028.html

More scientific data has been collected in the last year alone than in all previous years since science began, a Johns Hopkins University scientist says.

Within databases crammed with those observations lie discoveries waiting to be made. If, Alexander Szalay says, researchers develop and learn how to use new analytical tools that will sift those discoveries from a seemingly overwhelming flow of information.

"Computer science has the potential to drastically change the way we do science and the science that we do," said Szalay, Alumni Centennial Professor of Astronomy in the Henry A. Rowland Department of Physics and Astronomy and professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins. "It will play a critical role in tackling the largest challenges facing our world, from medicine and health to energy and the environment."

Every area of science, Szalay said, is inundated with an explosion of data. "It has become increasingly difficult to analyze data as yesterday's gigabytes have grown into today's terabytes," he said. "Soon, data sets will be measured in petabytes."

To effectively analyze such massive amounts of information, Szalay said, will require computing advances that transform the scientific process over the next 15 years.

Szalay was one of 34 members of a "2020 Science Group" that recently published "Towards 2020 Science," a comprehensive analysis of computer science's potential to revolutionize the way science is conducted. Published by Microsoft Research Cambridge, the report challenges the science and computer science communities to partner with policymakers and education leaders to realize that potential.

Szalay has been working with Jim Gray of Microsoft for nearly a decade on a variety of projects relevant to 2020 Science Group concerns about large data collections and their impact on science. In addition, Szalay's group at Johns Hopkins built the multi-terabyte archive for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (known as the "Cosmic Genome Project") and also played a major role in the National Virtual Observatory, an alliance to construct a system connecting all astronomy data in the world. Szalay also has actively collaborated with experts in mechanical engineering and computer science at Johns Hopkins' Whiting School of Engineering on advanced simulations of turbulence, and with researchers in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences on a cutting-edge project to develop tiny wireless sensors for environmental monitoring.

Szalay and other 2020 report contributors say that, although much of the data explosion has happened primarily in the physical and geo-sciences, it promises also to have a profound effect on life sciences. These advances, they say, will accelerate scientists' ability to address some of the modern world's greatest challenges, such as global epidemics and climate change. According to the report, software tools and algorithms that enable far more accurate and powerful modeling of complex systems will allow researchers not only to more clearly map potential epidemics, such as avian influenza, severe acute respiratory syndrome and malaria, but also to potentially avert disaster and improve response to real-time outbreaks.

"Science will be increasingly done directly in the database, finding relationships among existing data while someone or something else performs the primary collecting role," reads an editorial on the subject in the March 23 issue of Nature, which included a number of articles on the 2020 group's report and its impact. "And this means that scientists will have to understand computer science in much the same way as they previously had to understand mathematics as a basic tool with which to do their jobs."

The 2020 report makes a variety of recommendations, including that society put a priority on science and science-based innovation and that we find new ways to raise public awareness about the importance of research. To that end, Microsoft Research Cambridge will provide 2.5 million euro to the scientific community to support new research that specifically addresses areas outlined by the 2020 Science Group.

"Availability: Discontinued by Manufacturer"

Man, from 2004 to now they've completely switched over to the Duo Pro and Pro stuff for anything over 128 MB, so it's hard to find this kind of stuff in stores. Like Office Max. Where I have like $400 in store credit. lol

For their top-of-the-line product in voice recorders, you'd think Sony'd be a bit more on the ball with this memory stick thing. I wish it took the Pro kind :(

This is what I'm using now, it's an excellent model: http://voxscripta.com/sonyicdbm1.html

Of course, I'd rather have my hearing back in my left ear, but meh, do what you can with what you have where you are (I think that's a quote from some old president or something).

I got a Marto sword back when I was 14 years old. It's been mounted on my bedroom wall for over a decade:

I've wanted to get the Templar's sword for many years, but never had the money (kinda like I always wanted to get a chainmail hauberk, but never had the spare $600, lol)

The Templar sword is a classic Marto sword that I first saw in their catalogue almost ten years ago... and I still want to get it some day, lol:

Q: why do you use a cow everytime you post and what does it mean?

Some years ago here in C&C, certain members used certain smilies on a regular basis in their posts. I don't remember who they all were now, but I suppose I just continued the tradition out of habit, whereas others discontinued using their self-claimed smilies on a consistant basis. It most likely started from many years ago here, where, if you look at the smiley page, certain smilies are named after certain members: manny, ryanh, chesty, bfold, bigbuck, spatts, and others who are not around any more.

I believe Hammy was :frsty: , Lady Viking was always :mrmuscle: (mrmuscle is another poster from back in the day), I used :cow:, there was the whole :heks: thing, lol, Powerslave was always :garza: , Juicedpigentrails used :doc: quite a bit, and there was debate over who was :mexican: ... either sorearms or swastea or something... I don't recall.

Damn, I've been here a long time, lol.
