Note: This post is rather long, complex, and serious.
I have been weightlifting seriously (regular schedule) for over 15 months. I have been weightlifting altogether though since I was 15; I'm 19 now.
My goal with weightraining is simple, to get big and strong. I wanted to change from being an out of shape, weak looking kid into a strong, well cut, well defined, muscular person.
However, something is seriously wrong. I've got stats I can show you, but overall I haven't grown much at all.
It's not just me being a hard gainer, things just have not worked out well.
Let me describe this more clearly, more times than not I feel awful or near awful. When I feel this way I have notched a few things, one of them being my gut and stomach are huge. I have a lot of water/food/stuff in there. The rest of my body outside my stomach is empty, it is almost like all the fluids have been sucked in 1 concentrated area and have left the rest of my body empty.
I have notched contrastly on the occasional great times I have that my stomach is not big/bloated. Instead it is fairly light/kind of slim, and the rest of my body looks big and strong.
In contrast, it's like the water/food has been distributed to all of my body instead of the stomach.
Now I've tried everything. I've tried drink 10 glasses of water each day, eating 5 meals, gaining 20 pounds, running, IT DOES NOT MATTER.
The fact remains, I feel GREAT for a few days, and then sharply awful thereafter.
This has not changed with over 15 months of training and a good diet.
I was told by a registered dietitian back in June that I needed to eat more in order to solve this problem.
I did. Since June I went from weighing 174 with a BF of 9.6 to weighing 194 with a BF of 12.6%.
However the problem remains. I just feel fatter, not stronger. I don't look like somebody who works out. I look out of shape.
I spoke with a registered dietitian a weeks ago.
The RD thinks my diet is sufficient enough, at the very least not enough to cause the symptoms I've had.
The RD said that other people with similar fluctuations have had this problem and it is usually a medical condition.
She thinks I may be super sensitive to sodium, it could be hormonal thing, or a food allergy, but it is definitely worthy of medical attention.
I told her that I've gained 20 pound since June and my BF is now 12.6%, she told me that BF is ideal to have.
She said under no circumstance with this BF should I feel fat and bloated like I do, which further indicates there is something biologically wrong.
Basically my question to you is, what do you think.
Do you think this a medical problem?
I was thinking about asking to go see a doctor, but I'm a little embarssed/unsure.
I'm just don't know if this really is a medical problem, or if I'm going to be laughed out of the office.
In the last 3 weeks my body has been pretty consistent. I haven't had any up and down days, I've just felt downright awful.
I feel weak in my chest, arms, biceps, triceps, legs, and all muscles, while my stomach is absolutely gutty.
Again, it's like all the waterweight has been sucked from the muscles and into the stomach.
I was just wondering if this sounds like a medical problem worthy of a doctor visit.
Thanks.
