Possible EliteMail viruses

I just got a rash of emails from legitamate sounding addys that all have ".scr" attachments with nothing in the body of the email. All in one day.

All these addys mailed me an attachment called "wicked_scr.scr"

In addition a also got a slew of emails with a "pif" attachment baring different names from these accounts...

Maybe Admin can take a look into it, although with the exception of the Elite addy I don't know how much she can do other then to block them. It would seem judging by the names in the addy's used they could be targeting either Elite or BBing boards in general.

If you get any of these emails don't open them.

.pif and .scr are basically scripts that when dbl clicked will be run and your system infected. These have nothing to do with elite mail but are being sent by other infected computers that have your e-mail address somewhere on it. Most virus nowdays that abuse e-mail not only e-mail itself to a random address it finds on the infected comp but also disguises (or tries to) who the mail actual came from by using another randomly chosen name on the infected system.

I understand what you're saying, most likely that's what's happening. But I don't recognize any of these addys, I have no idea why they'd have my address.

It could be that somone got sent an e-mail with your name in it from someone you knew, it in turn infected someone else but now your e-mail is on their comp so it could be randomly grabbed as a target and other names used as the sender. The virus could actually be froms someones PC 2-3 or more layers removed from anyone you know or have e-mailed.

Got same and even got one from you Bro. It is not from you but someone had your addy in their addy book and it assumes your identity and sends on.

Been happening for about a month now.

Not only have I been getting them I have been sending them (not intentionally) and I know my computer is not infected. I have a cyber account and they come from there so by switching to cyber it does nothing to protect you, unfortunately.

I realize that but nobody has my cyber addy on their comp so they can't send me the emails.....viruses included....I've had one open for a couple weeks as a test and I haven't gotten any viruses

You are either receiving the Sobig virus or the results of the spread. Since elitefitness email is not equipped with an antivirus program, youa re seeing the results of the sobig virus. I read a report that the spread is scheduled to cease September 8. Still, the sobig virus email attachment can infect at any time, so delete those strange emails with scr or pif attachments.

I am also not effected but getthem so you must delete all. I have got the premium e-mail so have plenty of space but if you have not they easily put you above your quota and block good mails coming in.


DrJMW i also ready that Sept 8th it stops but will have to wait and see. Must admit i have not recieved 1/2 the amount i was 3 weeks ago.

Yep, I just signed up for a new cyber-rights account this morning (maybe I'll dump the old Elite one)...though they both only hold 2 megs...Canuck gets 6 megs, how did he do that?
