pores getting bigger on face?

You are, quite simply, wrong. Especially about accutane, accutane has a dramatic effect on pore size.

I would be delighted to learn that I am wrong about this matter; however, I have never seen any conclusive scientific evidence that pore size can be reduced. If you have a link to a commercial or academic study to the contrary, please post it. Thank you.

I can't be bothered looking up a study, but from my personal experience, roaccutane (as it's called where I live) does very noticably decrease pore size.

Possibly an acne forum would be able to help you search for study evidence.

Academic studies look at results and side effects. So you won't find any studies aimed at proving a med reduces pore size...thats ridiculous. You can, however, conclude that both meds (tazorac and accutane) decrease pore
size based on their mechanism of action. My doctor gave me a long explanation of how and why tazorac decreases pore size so I won't bore you with that, but it does. It takes 1-2 months, but it does decrease pore size and makes skin less oily. Accutane is even much more dramatic - ask anyone that has used it, they can attest to that.

Study on Reducing Skin Pore Size

Oily skin that secretes large amounts of sebum has large pores while dry skin lacking sufficient skin oil has small pores. Obviously, people want small pores but not the attendant dry skin. Oil removing solutions rarely help since the skin produces more oil and larger pores to compensate for the removed oil. Both retinoic acid and glycolic acid reduce skin oil production and pore size, but glycolic acid is easier to use.

Increasing skin renewal also reduces pore size since the firmer and thicker skin helps squeeze the pore downward and inward. During aging, our skin becomes more thin and pores become more prominent. Skin renewal serums and creams that increase collagen, elastin, and proteoglycans and increase the amount of subcutaneous fat (the very thin layer under the skin) both firm the skin and increase its thickness. Our customers often tell us that CP Serum ( 1 oz. for $14.95, 4 oz. for $33.95) or Protect & Restore ( 2 oz. for $21.95, 4 oz. for $33.95 ) (www.skinbio.com) produce these effects.

This thread piqued my interest, so I went exploring on some acne boards. Seems that a lot of those peeps use facial peels to shrink their pores. It's the kind of thing my ex used to pay $200-300 in a salon to have done, but they buy the stuff over the internet, even ebay, and do it themselves for $25.

Anyone ever tried this?

no I don't think he means exfolitation. My mom had some of that stuff, I would put it on and it would shrink wrap my face almost.
