I believe in evolution by natural selection --- it seem extremely likely to me and I will make any relevant decisions based on this likelihood.

Evolution doesn't fit with ALL real data. I'd be more than happy to show you several instances. Cosmological evidence can easily conflict with evolutionist theories.

I don't have faith, I have statistical confidence. I open my mind to all possibilities all of the time.

you just contradicted yourself in that statement. Statistical confidence (if there is such a term) seems to imply that you base reality on probability and consistant outcomes as a way to predict. Well 'all possibilities' and 'open mind' are statements that convey randomness. where's the statistical confidence in randomness? If you're statistically confident that randomness occurs then your are 100% probable. So why not just say you are random in thought which implies no semblance to consistant behaviour that you could measure with statistics?

Do you have anything to say that closely resembles any intelligent forethought? Or are you reducing yourself to simple musings that lap up your inherent lack of interest in higher thought, ornamented with prepubescent behaviour?

My main point was that a belief in evolution does not imply faith in evolution. I may have been somewhat incorrect in my definition of a scientific fact. I'm pretty sure I am mostly right about this definition, but I have never had to write for a scientific journal or anything. Furthermore, I don't base my beliefs on the definition of a scientific fact.

Amendment: Evolution is at least a theory that fits most data I have seen. Data that it does not fit may contradict part or all of it.

'All possibilities' and 'open mind' imply that maybe reality is random and maybe it is not. Science is open to all possibilities as it can always be amended. An open mind considers all possibilities it can think of but is not confined to always give equal weight to each and every possibility out of an infinite number of possibilities.

I will consider an idea if it is presented, therefore I have an open mind.

rotovibe,
I think you are trying to show me that I don't have a bulletproof belief system. I aknowledge that.

My belief system is the best I can do. I try to remain a blank slate, but no one is perfect.

well, let me be the first to say that I totally respect that...
I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from. I have thought a lot about such things for quite some time now and have researched it extensively. I am just trying to share what I know, maybe it will enlighten the person. I by no means want to 'convert' you but by all means discuss. Science cannot answer all of the questions. If you are determined enough to live your life with those beliefs then you should be WITHOUT REASONABLE DOUBT that it is true. Because if it is not, there isn't much hope.
I am saying that there is room to doubt, a big room.
Thanks for sharing

Code,
I'm sorry. I didn't realize that it was a typo.
I was just basing it on your previous posts...
so, what are your thoughts on the speed of light in a vacuum?

I've never been able to affect the speed of light with my vacuum. But not for a lack of trying!!
