That's ridiculous. I am an atheist and I don't have faith that there is no god. I'm just pretty sure that monotheism is not an accurate conception of reality because it is one idea out of an infinite number.

Agnosticism exists among theists and atheists. Theists may have faith while aknowledging that there is no way to know absolutely. Atheists may conclude that monotheism is not real for all practical purposes, but know that there is obviously no way to prove this.

I'm pretty sure god doesn't exist just like I'm pretty sure there is not an eyeball floating right behind me. That is not faith.

I find it humorous when someone who relies on faith thinks other people do, too.

So what do you attribute your feeling on that there is no God to?

Thomas jefferson was not atheist he was a deist...he acknoledged the presence of a 'creator' but also had scientific theories...he's well known for making a bible himself, taking most of the supernatural elements of the new testament out...

Cotton Mather was a school master / minister in New England in the 1600's, when God was really in the public schools in MA and surrounding areas. Published many books on raising children and how to discover "witches." Giles Corey was "pressed" (crushed) to death for calling the religious system silly and refusing to participate (refused to plead guilty or innocent) so they killed the "witch" anyway.

Funny, I don't remember Jesus saying anything about burning witches or crushing people with blocks of stones. He said you will know a Christian by his/her fruits. Which mean understanding, goodwill, love and other positive attributes looks like both of these guys were just whacked and using Christianity for their own personel agenda instead of God's.

I agree with GX94 too. You have to have faith to believe in Evolution since it is not a proven fact.

there is a difference between religion and personal faith and conviction. Religion is an excercise to attempt redemption with God as some scholars state it.
I agree with Adams...religion as a reference to hipocricy is not need. Look at the catholic church...that isn't a dis on catholicism. I think that we are now all aware of how religion can fail us...

Finally some people that see what I'm talking about. I have every intention of putting my kids into a private school even though I am not religious. They have morals, they have standards & ethics, public schools have to worry about whinning ass right wing parents trying to make a statement & show their ass. Public schools are also horrible education wise. Your child doesn't care about this political bullshit, it's the adults that are making abig deal about it. If I were to go to church I would be in a christian church since that is what I believe in but, do you think for one second that I care if my son were in a class or room full of jewish children & he wanted to recite their words. No, you know why, because he is a child, your job is to keep him safe & teach him. He's not going to burn in hell because he spoke of another religion or god. I want my children to be open to all concepts & religions. So that when they get old enough they can decide to what path to go down. I've talke so much on this subject today that I don't even know what the hell I'm saying anymore, I'm just rambling now. Time to go home.:D

"Are you suggesting that these can only be found in religion?"

Nah...I'm just asking where you personally get your morals from. Based on your statements I'm assuming you didn't get them from religion or God.
I'd like your opinion...
But you can't use answers like "my environment" or "my family" etc...

I would strongly stand behind saying most religious people have more morals & higher standards than a non religious person. Now I know there are exceptions but, your average everyday christian is very moral, polite & lives by a high standard of ethics.
