Great, that's gonna be in my mind on my next squat day. I actually have already feared it happening, not from great weight, but damn joint pain at the bottom end.
 
God damn, thats gotta hurt. Luckily my squat rack has bars that will keep the bar from crushing me.

Concerning his leg, I wonder if there is any truth to what is said about high protein diets weakening bones. I always worry about this, cause I've had lots of wrist and knee problems. Its probably just from all the running and loading I used to do. But I still worry about my leg or arm snapping.

Somebody from the PL board explained it a few days ago......

Apparently the guy had an existing fracture. On top of this, when he walked the weight out he knocked the racks. If you've done that you will know that it causes a nasty spring like effect......so itisnt suprising that something gave way.

Nice job by the spotters though huh :).

The thread should have been titled "always use a squat cage when doing squats." Theres nothing wrong with going to failure if you use spotters and a cage.

He had an existing fracture but that doesn't mean that he knew about it. Docs can tell the difference between a recent fracture and an old one.
 
One might note that it was 733 on the bar at 198lbs. I believe that he came back last year and squatted 925 at 275 or so...

Talk about a comeback...
