how about a system whereby members can become platinum for a certain period of time with a minimum purchase of MQ supplements? It could motivate more members to join, you never know?

I think that's a good idea. I'm sure that those who buy from MQ regularly have helped to support the site financially more than I. However, I could see where it would be a problem trying to track who's buying what and how much.
