plasma/flat screen tv's and extended warranties

had a long chat with the mitsubishi technician this am...warranty work needed on my big screen.

he advised me to buy the longest extended warranty available on ANY brand of plasma or flat front tv; saying he had yet to see one last much longer than 2 years without needing work.

thought i would pass it on, for whatever value ya'll put on it. :artist:

We just bought a Sony Bravia. It only cost us 200 clams( if I recall) to get a two year extended warranty.

Sorry, I would NOT want to have to take that TV down IF we ever had problems with it. It's soooo much easier to have someone come to our home and fix it. Hubby hid all the wires in the wall too. I told him if we got one, I better NOT see any damn wires running up the walls- looks tacky.

BUY THE WARRANTY!

i bought the warranty. what's an extra $2-300? Any problems - my dad can just call and bitch and have them fix it. As opposed to going through the yellow pages, and trying to find whatever Chinese repair shop can come and fix it. Wind up charging just as much as the warranty anyways.

My computer, monitor, hd camera, lcd tv, etc. all have warranties. Nice piece of mind.

Cost too much? Increase your earnings.

should we get the extended warranties on them?

Yes. Especially if you're buying plasmas. If you keep a plasma on for an entire day or two, a "burn-in" will take place. The last image frozen on the tv will be always imprinted on the plasma, i.e. if you have the playstation hooked on it, and pause the game, you leave the house and come back, the image will always be imprinted on your plasma.

All phosphor based display systems, i.e. plasmas are susceptible to image retention also known as "ghosting, image shadowing, image burn in." This is due to physical properties of phosphor and how it reacts to light and electric impulse.

too late now. we got 2 35"+ LCD's one year ago and the other 2.5 years ago. no problems with either (knock on wood). i dont care for the plasmas much. i prefer the lcd.

you won't have burn-in prbs with LCDs.

Do you get HDMI signal? Is it 1080p enabled?
What kind of LCDs do you have?

For next time, here are the best LCD brands out there:

NEC
Mitsubishi
Toshiba
LG <----it's not excellent, but it does the job.
Proton

The ones in bold are excellent.

The entire industry is moving towards 1080p. Everything else will become obsolete. Do you have 780p then? or 1080i?

the i in 1080i stands for interlaced. That means you only see part of the image. The p in 1080p stands for progressive; i.e the ability to see the entire image at the same time.

?

i = interlaced. TWO FIELDS which gets merged into ONE FRAME.

It's stil 1,080 pixels.

You see the same image. Interlacing allows TV to have more 'LIVE, FLUID' action such as in sports, news, etc. Which is why TV looks 'different' than watching say a DVD film, which is shot in 24p. I think you get like 2.5x more detail, especially during action scenes. That's 60 samples per second.

Trust me, you do NOT want to watch Monday Night Football in true progressive format. It would be like watching football scenes in a movie or even Friday Night Lights!

lol....interlaced technology is shit....it is becoming obsolete...it is whyi make my money every month. Everthing is moving towards progressive. You know u are a real piece of work. Do you argue just for the sake of arguing. So you just copy some thing off of google and expect us to be impressed. While you may have read this somewhere, it is what i do for a living.
