The placebo effect is the measurable, observable, or felt improvement in health or behavior not attributable to a medication or invasive treatment that has been administered.
A placebo (Latin for "I shall please") is a pharmacologically inert substance (such as saline solution or a starch tablet) that produces an effect similar to what would be expected of a pharmacologically active substance (such as an steroid or drug).
By extension, "fake" gains and "fake" metal effects are considered placebos.
The idea of the placebo in modern times originated with H. K. Beecher. He evaluated 15 clinical trials concerned with different diseases and found that 35% of 1,082 patients were satisfactorily relieved by a placebo alone ("The Powerful Placebo," 1955). Other studies have since calculated the placebo effect as being even greater than Beecher claimed. For example, studies have shown that placebos are effective in 50 or 60 percent of subjects with certain conditions, e.g., "pain, depression, some heart ailments, gastric ulcers and other stomach complaints."* And, as effective as the new psychotropic drugs seem to be in the treatment of various brain disorders
Whats this mean for all of us in the steroid/supplement worlds?
Placebo effects can arise from a conscious belief in a Product and subconscious associations between what a company or group of people would convince you to believe. From a simple sale pitch to a deep desire of truly wanting the product to work. From the words of a friend to placing fathomless trust in some one word the Placebo effect is real and its more powerful then you could ever imagine.
biological active processes in the brain can make ones expectation of something do things it would normally not do. You might train harder, eat better, work out more, get more involved with your fitness and health. I mean how many of us do this with a steroid cycle? When we are on cycle we work 3 times as hard, eat twice as much and as good. Push out that extra rep, spend the extra 20 mins in the gym. The simple fact that you are on something makes you push that much more.
This happens with everything from a steroid cycle to maybe even taking a new supplement IMO. Who am I kidding maybe my ass it happens all the time!!!
My point it this. Yes it is good to believe in a product. It is even better to trust a company that many others trust. But at the same time keep your wits about you. Stay grounded in research and finding things out for your self. Learn how to learn. Learn how to make up your own mind and don't blindly follow others. My friends dont even blindly follow me. Because at times I have been wrong too. When I have been I have admitted it and made it wright though but still. I think I know a bit about a bit too but that is nether here nor there is this conversation at the moment.
Maybe you have been placebod? do you think so?
