pinned myself under the bar

for the first time today. I was doing 5x5 with 175 lbs. It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be, I just rolled it down my chest and picked it up. I couldn't beleive that not a single person came over to help me. Not even the bastard who was vacuuming right next to me. I wont be helping them next time they pin themselves, fuckers...

Thats fucked up man. What a bunch of dicks.

Glad you're alright bro.

Well atleast you are ok thats the main part. Could have been worse. Is it ok to laugh now....LOL....Sorry it was more the mental picture that you excelently created.

Fancy the bastard with the vaccum not helping that is poor mate, very poor, on the whole guys in gyms are normally a great help, help with spots etc.

I know what i would have done with his bloody vaccum.

thanks alot bro! lol, no actually i was laughing in the gym as soon as i got the bar off of me ;) This just gives me one more good reason to build a home gym.

1. Always ask for a spot
2. Use weights that you can handle
Yeah, I've learned my lesson. How do you guys keep progressing without eventually pinning yourself? I can handle 165 for 5x5, but 175 killed me...

You should have worked with 170lbs.

I don't use the 5 x 5 program, instead I use 1 set to absolute failure.

If I am working with heavy weights, I will always ask for a spot.

Hmm, if you go to absolute failure don't you need a spot regardless of how heavy it is? Since you can't lift it at all when you're done (failure)?

And yeah audiophyle, unless the weight was very easy it's recommended that you only go up by 5 punds for 5x5.

well thats the thing, i didnt expect it to be absolute failure. 165 went up pretty easy 5x5. I didnt expect 175 to be such a bitch. I think i've finally convinced one of my friends to start coming with me to the gym so I'll have someone to spot me.

my gym doesnt have 2.5 lb weights unfortunately.

Only on incline presses or overhead presses.

i get pinned once a week and i lift alone. you'll learn it's no big deal. getting pinned under boards is a little different but you can get out from under them also

I would get pinned a lot if not for my catch pins. I went to failure about 4 times last time I did presses/incline presses.

Just bench in a power rack and set the pins so that at the bottom your chest grazes the bar. The cool thing about this is that you can do the first rep from the bottom and you don't need any spotters or have to worry about getting pinned.

i was benching today. i asked a guy for a lift, not even a spot!!!! i was on my last working set 265 for 5. the guy gave me a hard time. I could not believe it. maybe becouse there was a chick working the front desk. i know 265 is not that heavy, but it was my goal for today, and i hv been getting prepared for this chest workout all week. anyway, he reluctantly gave me the lift. i completed the set and thanked him. its not like im one of the gym assholes. my form is perfect, i hv total control of the weight im lifting. i never go under 5 reps. and i work my ass off. and to top it off, he is one of those guys with no mass, just low BF. And he does not even go near 265 on the bench!!! I do not compare, but when a guy is alome and needs a lift, i give it to him gladly.

i know im venting, it just pisses me off. i look for people who may need a spot or a lift. i enjoy when people get a lift they are working towards!!!!!
