Pink Floyd "The Wall" Discuss

When I was a kid I hated the movie. I totally misunderstood the essence of the movie.

Now, I have to say it is probably one of my top three albums of all time (right behind GNR's Appetite for Destruction and Type O Negative's October Rust).

It is a story about a guy who lost his dad in WWII and he is dealing with the aftermath of it all. Very poignant. War can reverberate years after the last shot is fired.

Good shit IMO.

I hate the acid dropping hippies that misconstrue it. Screw them.

This sends shivers down my spine every time I watch it.

It was dark all around.
There was frost in the ground
When the tigers broke free.
And no one survived
From the Royal Fusiliers Company C.
They were all left behind,
Most of them dead,
The rest of them dying.
And that's how the High Command
Took my daddy from me.

i was tripped out of my head on beavis and butthead lsd and saw them live with david gilmour singing in 1994
division bell tour...good shit.
and seemingly most of floyd isn't really hippies, and roger waters was definetly not.
proly socialist though

I usually look at my fav bands political views just for shits and giggles. Edie Vedder is on ass who takes it too far and preaches on stage. I no longer listen to Pearl Jam (at least their new stuff - One and Vs. are awesome CD's).

I know Waters dad died in WWI so he is probably very liberal and anti-war. I'll look into it. I've never heard him preach so that is good.

EDIT: He voted for Obama and is very anti-war. I hope he is choking on his own feces because 'Bammy sent 30,000 additional troops to 'stan.

I still love this album. Roger Waters could stuff an army of socialist shaved gerbils up his ass and I would still like him.

usually when a artist get's too far into liberalism i lose interest...john mccartney, bruce, jimmy buffet come to mind.
rage against the machine exemplifies this for me...the first few albums i could understand...young, a bit naive of the world, etc.
but still to this day bitching and fitting?
how hard can it be for multi-millionaire artists
bros working for a 1/1000 of that don't bitch as much.
and at least waters' brand of leftism is more militant agro and not pussy flower power shiat

My interest in Pink Floyd stops with "Obscured By Clouds" (the last one before "Dark Side..."), although I can still tolerate "Wish You Were Here".

Roger Waters was four months old when his dad was killed, so all the whining he's been doing about "loss" rings a bit hollow to me. He never knew the man. He just likes wallowing in misery. "The Wall" is an unpleasant experience, both thematically and musically. I fucking hate it. The only redeeming bits are the few bits Gilmour got to sing, and Gilmour's guitar solos.

I have been a floyd fan since I was about 14. My first concert was the dark side in 1975 in my home town of Hamilton. I was hooked on floyd. My favorite album is by far animals. Didn't get the air time but that 's part of it awesomeness.

Part of the reason floyd broke up in the first place was Rogers self pity of the death of his father. Gilmor finally had enough and wanted to take the band in a new direction.

Rip Richard Wright.

RIP Syd Barrett, the forgotten orginal lead singer

Gilmour is the man. I am not a big fan of the pre-Wall Floyd stuff. It is probably because 'Money' was on the radio 24/7 when I grew up and that song makes me sick.

Post-Wall is all Gilmour and the music is very good. Good drinking music too.

"Meddle" and "Obscured By Clouds" was their peak period. And of course the first album "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" was brilliant '60s psychedelia.

the change in the style real was noticable when Sid left. Meddle was probably the turning point with the extended play and awesome guitar work.
