Pieces of shuttle found by my house...

So how does that work?? The shuttle explodes and falls thorugh the atmosphere which will raise the temperature of the pieces A LOT. Any liquids should evaporate and get dispersed.

I reckon they just want all of the pieces so that they can figure out what happened.

This is what I think as well, however I'm just repeating what I've been told. You can't even get near anything around here right now without being threatened to be arrested. I agree with the homer simpson quote. I want one of those things.

I live on the east side of the metroplex, an apt complex caught fire and burned a pretty good sized hole from some of the debris. Its just really random, we're pretty far from the rest of the debris. The debris goes all the way to louisiana.

OK!!! I figured out what it is. Pieces of it that are BURNING and giving off fumes are toxic. They are telling people in Nacodoches (sp) to stay inside as thats where most of the shuttle is landing. I'm hearing pretty grizzly pieces are found as well.

Some sheriff came on CNN and said they found an arm and hand . I think they want every piece in order to put it back together. Its not like the shuttle was radioactive or something. Yeah, jet fuel might be bad if long exposure to skin. So is motor oil.

Ok that makes more sense..........BTW I didnt mean to give you a hard time about it.

No, its all over the news around here. If you breathe in or get contaminated by the pieces, they poison your lungs. Or something to that extent.

The resin that accumulates in the engines probably has quite a bit of hydrazine and a few nitrates and HPX.

Time to bring out the MOPP gear....... :)

LOL

Anyways, in all seriousness...if you do find a piece don't touch it.

My Stepdad is the Head Safety Eng. for NASA in Houston and after talking with him a good deal this morning all I can say is stay away from anything you might fight cause chances are that it could be very harmfull to you. If you find something call this number and they can direct you to who you need to talk with to have someone pick it up....Chances are you will probably talk to my stepdad since he's going to be dealing with this probably for the next year or two

NOTE TO PERSONS IN THE AREA: Anyone who believes they have found debris related to Columbia should call the Johnson Space Center Emergency Operations Center, (281)-483-3388. Be aware that hazardous chemicals may be present; do not disturb or move any debris.

All debris is United States Government property and is critical to the investigation of the shuttle accident. Any and all debris from the accident is to be left alone and reported to Government authorities. Unauthorized persons found in possession of accident debris will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

People have already been selling pieces on eBay, but the listings are getting removed about as quickly as they can be listed.
