pic3....car question sir

That's kind of a tough question because your local market will drive the price.

My strategy in buying cars is to do your homework. Edmunds.com shows a TMV or true market value price which is supposedly the average price for a particular model which should put you in the ball park. Also price it with your options at NADA.com, kbb.com, and carsdirect.com

I usually try to "feel out" a dealership by making a low ball offer and then be prepared to walk.

Trying to determine Honda prices is harder than most, there's really no telling what incentives are being offered to the dealer at any given time.

Also, don't let dealerhips run your credit report until you actually agreed on a price. Too many hard inquired will negatively impact your credit.

YOu cant go wrong with a Honda Civic!!

Buy a 2006 instead. Maybe even a demo.

If he purchased a Corolla LE with a "J" vin number and a $99 Garmin hand held GPS from Wally World he'd have a more reliable car and about $4k still in his pocket. :)

what is a realistic out the door price I should be happy with?

unless you're totally set on a Civic for some reason, I'd encourage you to look at other possibilities. I think they're underpowered (shitty torque) and overpriced.

either a toyota corolla or a honda civic (for that matter, a toyota or honda any model) has long been my most reccommended cars to anyone asking for a reliable, economical, high quality car to purchase and enjoy.

although the civics are slightly more fun-to-drive, i think the corolla is a more solid car and will wear better over the long term....espically in the interior quality of materials area.

check out the resale (and desireability) value of a 5, 6, 10 year old corolla, civic, nissan sentra, mazda protoge/323, hyundai anything, chevy cavilere (cadaver), ford escort, chrysler/dodge anything.......you will get the message. my father was a dodge/plymouth/chrysler fan during the 60's and 70's....after watching the phone ring off the hook during the 80's when i got tired of my various honda or toyota and put them up for sale, he switched automotive loyalities.

pfft. . .i put 250+ on my accord, gave it to my dad (when the gas prices started climbing) and he's put another 50 on it. . .doesn't burn a drop of oil and i've never replaced anything (excl prm) except struts, front calipers and wheel bearings. . .

Get the SI instead of the EX.

I gotta say my little honda is as great as ever with 155 K on it. Never any problems, I love that car. I buy American trucks but will always buy jap cars or SUV's. I my opinion American cars just can't seem to go as long or at least it's not as common for them to go 300K with no major issues. No matter what you buy honda and toyota rule.
