Physiques of the late 80's vs those of today.....

definitely Arnold ... but I agree that Serge Nubret should also be a source of inspiration... forget about Coleman its damn uggly.

I agree to a point. Personally I think Shawn Ray has the perfect build. But how can you take a guy like Coleman and tell him he built too much muscle as a bodybuilder?

I agree with Shawn not so much as being perfect but having the best symetry an sculptured physique out of today's BB's. But did you see the pictures from Gullie's post from the 2001 USA Champ. He has a picture in there with Ronnie accepting an award in his purple suit and his body looks way to big for his head . . . looks way out of proportion. IMO I think if Ronnie were to get any bigger he will burst like a ballon. But you're right in the fact that he can get as big as he want's to.

Lads ,
I cannot believe no-one has mentioned the most gifted BB who has ever walked,IMO opinion of course , The Myth - Sergio Oliva . He was never bloated , shit , scanner won't work , I wanted to post a pic.

It isn't the "too much muscle" thing, its the distended and ugly midsections, the bloated looks, the lack of rock hardness aka Reg Park, Mentzer, Zane, Gaspari and others, and they can't even do a vacuum pose- you used to get marked down for that stuff- enough to lose, you know?

Sergio 4 ever

Finally , not the pic I wanted , but it's pretty good:
BTW: Arnold said that he (Sergio) was the greatest ever.

As a bodybuilder I understand the pursuit of "freakiness."But there comes a point that these guys lose quality, shape, symmetry, and proportion.Even Flex is starting to lose the qualities that make him awesome.Look at him at the 1993 Arnold Classic...much better than he is today. At least Levrone is starting to come down a bit,and now is placing higher. My goal is to make myself look like a work of art which takes careful planning, not just slopping on as much clay as possible.Everyone has their own opinion, and I respect that, but when bodybuilders(who are supposed to be a "physical ideal")start to look pregnant, literally, when they aren't controlling their abs and have odd shapes and bumps on their bodies that cannot be identified in human physiology than I think it is time to step back and really ask ourselves if the sport and/or art of bodybuilding is going in the right direction....
