Phosphatydyl Serine, anyone tried this?

"New European Phosphatydyl Serine powder used by Now is tested to be between 90%-96% pure Phosphatydyl Serine. At Now in-house testing occurs several times each batch using High Performance Liquid Chromatography and encapsulating takes place in house controlling quality from start to finish. thyroid hormones.

Furthur Information:
In recent clinical studies when phosphatidylserine was administered to strength athletes, cortisol levels were reduced by almost 30%! This can result in more productive workouts and growth. In one study, PS promoted a marked reversal of many symptoms associated with depression. PS also stimulated dramatic improvements in memory and retention of information. PS is a natural substance found in cell membranes in the brain, specifically in the cerebral cortex neuronal membrane. It can act as an antioxidant and in doing so may enhance longevity.

Benefits
Highly effective cortisol antagonist
Enhances nitrogen retention
Greater amino acid uptake
Helps maximize muscle growth
Reduces stress reactions
Greater rate of recovery
Boosts immunity
Enhances longevity
Can reverse the symptoms of depression
Can boost protein synthesis by blocking stress hormones"

I've been looking into this for a long while now: it's administration has been shown in numerous studies to antagonize cortisol in a similar manner and effect of that of steroids, but without suppression. It also has numerous nootropic properties. The only caveat is price and purity. Generally most studies showed effective dose of 800mg - but at the prices that the stuff is available now that would be rather costly. Secondly, many companies are selling standdardized extracts - 20-30% effective content - that amounts to even higher costs as you would need to concume a load to achieve 800mg :o

This sounds like a promising product for the future (when it comes down in price).

By the way... is there any more word on the street as to how much of the bodybuilding supplement range is likely to get banned???

A good product but way to expensive to be worth it :(

SO what dose would one need to get anything? I thought I might try 800mg per day for 2 moths, but then again maybe the effects would come after more than 2 months and with a dose of something like 2g per dag, anyone know doses and so on...?

800 mg Phosphatidylserine given in two divided oral doses helps suppress cortisol secondary to intense weight training

immediate effect on cortisol = immediate effect on your training

but suppressing cortisol does not mean gaining lots of lean body mass

Ok, thanks.I'm leaving gear soon, probably for all time and are going for the "legal" things.

I will try this out in march.

Phosphatidylserine 800mg ED for 90days
Vitamine B-12(SubQ) 4000mcg per week( 2 devided doses) 1 year
Glutamine Peptides + BCAA ED for 1 year

We'll see... ;)

Could you elaborate on this? Cortisol is extremely overdemonized in the BB circles - a suppression of cortisol might intuitively lead you to believe that it will enhance your routine, but it will kill your endurance, kill your joints, kill your energy partitioning mechanism, kill your brain function.
Excess cortisol = bad, depressed cortisol = might lead to fatal outcome :o
Not to mention cortisol is not the only culprit to muscle degradation during training - there are perroxides, ROS's, tnf-alpha elevation, etc etc

You're right

Too little cortisol would lead to over training, injury and so on

but PS will not completely suppress cortisol (well, may be in vitro, in labs, but not on the average BBer working out)

It will just suppress the catabolic effect induced by heavy training

I was just trying to say that after lifting or intense cardio PS will immediately preserve part of your muscle by inhibiting part of the cortisol catabolic effect

That would be assuming that the time frame of PS action is very short. But it was shown that PS's effects on cortisol are rather systemic and are accruing much like steroids - it was shown that a 30day administration trial @ 800mg produced 47% decrease in cortisol. And generally soy derived phosphatidylserine taken once daily - @ 600 mg orally will lower cortisol levels by ~37%. @ 800 mg it will reduce cortisol by ~45% @ 1000 mg it will reduce cortisol by ~51%. Observations were taken 6, 12, and 24 hours after consumption. This is the root of the problem it seems- if it indeed lowers cortisol for such prolonged periods systematically and at such significant rates it could very well be extremely counterproductive.
sending the vote out there :o
