Philly schools to require African history class

Hengst said:
Great news!!

Finally, a course in african history that will include an examination of the tribes that captured and sold their fellow africans to the atlantic slave trade, and to the arab slave trade.

Or do you think it will be an excersize in white guilt and only focus on the devil white man?... a la:
The African American Odyssey, by Darline Hine

A quick look at Amazon's review says the book "begins in sixteenth century Africa with the beginning of the forced migration of millions of Africans to the Americas. Succeeding chapters present the struggle of black people to maintain their humanity during the slave trade and as slaves in North America during the long colonial period."

just so you know bor their's a lot more to african history than the slave trade...you act as if this is the focus of african history

European history is required now?

maybe it is different state to state, but in my high school everyone took euro history...in these days of budget tightening though, history classes proly get cut which is sad.
I took african history in college and thought it was really fucking good, applicable to understanding earth-wide human history...it's not all about the slave trade and such, like most seem to assume.
The hillbilly's and dumb crackas will surely make a scene out of this...

It's great to learn history other than that of your own country. They should make all kinds of history and language classes compulsory in my opinion.

We had American History and world history. Pretty much everything non-American was covered in those world history classes.

when they give 25 pages of a text to cover everything, they go really in depth
