personal trainer for the first time

ive finally come to the realization that i dont know much of shit about training and decided to meet with a personal trainer. i set up a training session for the day after tomorrow. Basically my goal is to not exactly look a certain way, just to help me increase my strength and possibly improve my form on certain lifts so that i work each muscle 100%...my main question to u guys who have had a personal trainer is basically to ask if this is a good goal to explain to him that i want to achieve. I understand the basics of training as ive been doing it for years but thought it wouldnt hurt to have a trainer give me some tips so i can improve myself and i dont keep hitting walls....is this worth it? sorry this was so long guys. k

Getting out of mindset of mindlessly "running program X" and learning how to design your own training is a laudable goal and essential for long-term progress, but there's a good chance that getting a PT won't solve that problem. While there are certainly people out there who know what they're doing (most would be called 'coaches' rather than 'trainers' since they're coaching athletes competing in some sport), most PTs you'll find at the local commercial gym don't know anything about proper form and will just put you on the same cookie-cutter program they use with all their clients rather than doing anything truly personalized.

yea thats what i was wondering about. the guy i talked to who i ve known and see a lot at the gym for almost a year now is bigger and a lot more muscular and stronger than i am but i wasnt sure if hed be worth spending $25 an hour on. watching him it doesnt seem he does much different training than i do aside from being able to use much more weight for many more reps than i can. hes also a good 10 years older.
