Personal Trainer is PMSing???

I know alot of you guys are PTs or studying to be PTs... so the deal is my PT used to be a powerlifter so the workouts are always very heavy/intense & he kicks my ass (in a good way:). Anyway-- we got in a fight this morning & he tells me to "shut the fuck up" and storms away before finishing our workout.

ok... so the guys a great trainer but can be a rude prick & Im paying him a fucking fortune (like 100/hr). So, should I fire him or put up w/this???

Remember...he works for you. Also...when I am training someone...I don't want any lip from them at all...I could be spending my time training somone else...(if that is the case).

totally unprofessional.

it sounds like either he/you/both are too comfortable with each other. thats a line i choose not to cross. i can joke with my clients, but there is a line. professionalism and being buddies are 2 different worlds.

1st, nothing should become personal.
2nd, he needs to be in control of his temper.
3rd, realize that you are paying for his knowledge/guidance not attitude. or are you?

many people use trainers for many reasons. if you can live with the idiosyncracies of that particular trainer, then you guys will have a good working relationship. if you hired him because of his past powerlifting experience and want to train that way, then you made a good match. if you want a particular style of training and he's only accustomed to training one way, then you should look elsewhere. a trainer's experiences will shape how they train their clients, i just hope he has had more than powerlifting as his background otherwise you may be missing out on other aspects of fitness due to his bias. for $100 an hour, you should have the world at your fingertips.

hmm....beverly hills.......long beach.....LOL.

hehehe. :p

:D

what was the argument about?...... i would be able to answer this better if i knew what the topic was. depends on what was being said.

Thanks B-- if I ever train w/you-- I'll put duct tape over my mouth :D

bignate-- you nailed it-- we're more friends than client/trainer. Maybe thats the problem. I still think cussing at me & splitting before the workout is over was crappy of him. He still hasent called (to apoloigize or explain wtf was going on).

Exodus- he was BSing w/some other trainers & I wanted to workout so I sorta said "c'mon lets get going" & interrupted his convo. But- hey its my workout time (Im paying for it), not his time to BS. Was I wrong to do that???

no......... he was out of line.

you have to figure out if that crap is worth 100 bucks an hour. i wouldnt take that, unless it was an isolated incedent.

When I was a trainer, there were a few rules that I utterly lived by:

1)Always be professional
2)Respect your clients and their time with you - no matter if they are personal friends
3)Listen first

No matter if this trainer is a friend, you are still paying him for his services. And time is money.

Personally, I wouldn't put up with that crap. And that is crap treatment. Excuse the language. But that stuff peaves me off when I hear or see trainers act that way. When it's $100 per session, you better be the central focus for that trainer. He/she shouldn't be paying any attention to anyone/thing but you in that gym. And the trainer should be "keeping the cool" - afterall, he/she is YOUR professional guide to all things weight training.

Let's look at this way: after he lost his temper to you; how do you see him now? Is he someone you can honestly respect? I doubt it. Hopefully you've made the decision to give him the boot.

Seek training help elsewhere. He was wrong and, unless the conversation was of an incredibly important nature, he should be replaced. Even if the conversation involved something very serious, he could have been polite.

You pay him for that period of time. Simple as that.

Things like this really piss me off. I'm sorry you had to go through with that, Bev.

And FIRE his ass. No question.

Embarrassing someone in public is one of the worst things you can do to a person. That alone is enough to fire him, but it sounds like this isn't the first time he's been a dickhead with you in the gym.

Perhaps worse, that he's supposedly your friend, charges you for his services (I'm sorry...I've yet to meet ANYONE worth that much an hour: attorney, M.D., you name it), and THEN curses at you...

I'd tell him, "No, fuck YOU. You're fired, retard."

If you were me, my lawyer--who incidentally is also a friend, and doesn't charge me anything when I need her services--would be damn sure he wouldn't be coming back to that gym, either. Hit him in the wallet. As a woman vs. a former powerlifter, you'll gain more sympathy from the manager than he ever would.

If he apologizes, you might let show him some latitude insofar as being sure he's kicked out of that gym, but no question: FIRE HIM. There's the proper respect and deference for a trainer, as B-fold said. But respect is a mutually inclusive thing. If he disses you like that, he simply ain't worth the respect. He violated your trust and made a spectacle in the gym like a stupid child and bully; I bet he wouldn't have told Eddie Coan to go fuck himself, eh?

Trust me, there are plenty of other ex-powerlifters that could push you hard or even harder, and many of them will be the nicest, "aww, shucks" guys you will EVER meet. If you truly need a trainer at all, hook up with one of them...maybe you'll get away with paying less, to boot :)

NO REASON....

For him to say anything like that to you for any reason if you are paying him that much $$$. That's very very unprofessional I.M.O Get rid of that loser there are a lot of other people who have the same qualifications, and better and prolly charge less and will help u reach the goals u desire!!! :mix:

haha... good one spatts & theres always another side to the story :)

I interrupted his conversation & he was pissed... I think that covers it. We sometimes cuss at each other during the workout-- more to get me motivated than in anger. If he was joking around- why walk off like that???

dont know... he didnt call & he should have cooled off by now... dont ya think???

Very little is worth $100/hour, and I don't think PT qualifies, esp. if it's causing you stress. You didn't pay for this.

From the way you put it, he was WAY out of line. He had no right at all to (1) curse at you, or (2) walk out on you. You are paying for his services, so he should give you is undivided attention.

Fire him.

tell him that he owes you a free session! seems that you enjoy the tortureous workout sessions...but I'm all about getting what you paid for and you didn't pay him to split! that's my 2 cents!

I think you should fire his ass, I only charge $50 per hour and I'm nice to my clients. Also you aren't friends, I train my friends for free, once you pay him, especially an insane amount like 100 per hour, he works for you. What does he do that makes him such a great trainer, does he put put free 'roids in the protein shakes.

If he was on the clock he should be gone. I don't have any respect for someone that is making that kind of money to simply blow you off and cuss you at the same time. He has to get things stright, hes working for you, and when your there paying him, he should never act like that again. He should have never done that to begin with but still. I would talk to him about it and tell him it upset you and he was out of line. Tell him to strighten up or you will find someone else that you will give 100$ an hour to!!!

I didn't mean for it to sound rude...hope I didn't come off that way. I just hate to interject opinions on things when I don't have all the facts.
