personal records on max effort

by how much do you guys try and beat your PR on ME day?

i usually only try and stick a 1.25kg on each side (i guess thats 5.5lbs in total) each time i max out.

it feels comfortable......some weeks i feel i can put on more (i usually try with good results)

just wondering how much you guys progress.

what do you do if you miss the PR, alter your dynamic effort work out???

i will usually try to get 5-10 lbs. on it. But yu never know i have felt really good on days and gotten 20 before. If you don't struggle at least a little to get it up than its not heavy enough

I first try and hit a 10lb pr then if I hit I go up another 20lbs. I keep going until I fail. If I miss the 10lb pr I will try 2 more times and callit a day.

hey 1-dawg one question you said you try it again after you do that then "call it a day" do you do your EXTRA workouts after trying the lift or just "call it a day". Curious about this.

hey from the last time I did floor presses which was two weeks ago b/c last week on friday I went for a max. I went up 10lbs on my floor presses. Didn't go til I failed or else I probably could have gone up a good 15-20lbs. How do you guys start on a floor press then move up????????? I went bar 5 times 115 once, 145 once, 185 once, 205 once, 215 for my last one. Is this good enough or should I be doing less than move up by maybe 40lbs each time?????

I think that how much you go up between attempts depends upon how much you are going to have on the bar during the last attempt or two. For example, if I am working up to 585 on a rack lockout, then it doesn't make much sense to go up by 10-20 lbs per attempt. But if your max attempt on a particular exercise is in the 200''s somewhere, then it doesn't make sense to go up 50-90 lbs per attempt.

I did reverse band press wednesday for my max effort with green bands, and my attempts were as follows: 135x10, 225x3, 275x1, 315x1, 365x1, 405x1, 425x miss. So you see I take bigger jumps till I get close to max, then smaller jumps. The 405 was a new pr that I was pretty confident in making, and I just missed 425. Needed one little bump from the spotter. Next time, which is probably a ways off, I will ProbablyHope this helps.

ye that did help a little I'll see how I go in my jumps now and then after that make sure I go until I miss or need some help from my spot(brother). Thanx man
