Pectoral Muscle question?

My friends Pectoral muscle tore while lifting (in the gym) a few weeks ago. He goes in for surgery next week. He has to stay in a sling for 3-4 months and go for therapy for 6 months to a year and will not be able to lift again (at all) for one full year.

Were talking about a guy that benches 435lbs and now can not even do one push -up :worried:

Anyone here know someone that this has happened to? If so how long did it take for them to bounce back?

search for "pec tear"

there have been a couple people in the A-S forum that had it happen to them.

I tore my bicep about a month ago,and had surgery on it. I was told I can not lift, push, or pull anything with that arm for 6-8 weeks, and can't lift, push,or pull anything heavy for 6 months. I go in tomorrow morning for a checkup with my surgeon. I'm going to ask him what exactly "heavy" means. Because his heavy and my heavy are two diffarent things. I'm wondering what kind of sling you would wear for a torn pec? I feel sorry for him. If he likes to lift as much as I do, he should start going crazy after about the first week, much like I have. I've already lost 15lbs and my diet has gone to shit, because its hard to cook alot of the foods I eat with only having one arm to use. Help him out as much as you can if he is a real good friend.

Tear in the muscle(rare) or an insertion point tendon tear?

All I know is their is a big knot in his chest that is very visible.
A tear at the insertion is most likely and from appearances better than a tear in the muscle itself...

Fuck that shit...that's why I dont lift extremely heavy anymore or go to failure. I've seem to many tears and fucked up vertebrates(I guess that's how you spell it.)

tell him that his new hobby is ping pong. and sloppy form is the reason for injuries....

Try the powerlifting forum. Theres some big lifters over there.........they are bound to know somebody who has been through it.

I had a bad one in high school..........it shouldn't keep him from lifting for a whole year though. If he's aggessive with his rehab he could be back to his former strength in 1-2 years. He has to be doing alot of range of motion stuff for awhile though...........but he has to do it everyday. I bought some power bands and did very light resistance pec flyes while sitting in a chair or at night in bed. Oh yeah..........Growth hormone is also a definite help.

covergal search my thread history
a few months ago i made a thread linking to a AAS thread about a nasty pec tear, with pics and all.
the dude was very informative

I am sure he is right on top of that Rose.

Thanks for the info I will pass it on!

I don't think it will be a whole year to recover, must of been a major tear. What was he doing when he tore it?

Best advice, quit lifting heavy so often. I had to do 6 months of physical rehabilitation and then another 3 months on a shoulder from benching. I rarely flat bench press. Dumbells are the shit. You can manipulate the range of motion better with dumbells. This allows you to stay away from the painful parts of a lift. Plus I personally think it strengthens the smaller muscles used for stability, helping alleviate the strain on the major muscles. I've met a few guys who tore biceps and pecs. Looks like a huge lump and bruises very badly. the guys I know immediately after surgery started hgh. Just a thought, not advocating hgh.
