I generally stick to the strategy games and only a few have come close to challenging my system. Medieval II was the closest and still ran very well; It lets you take charge of each battle and command the army.

I don't game, but got COD4 just to see if it would run good on high detail and everything, it ran fine but it's a pain to restart with only one monitor turned on in SLi mode.

$600 doesn't sound bad. I'm looking at building a system around intel's quad core and an asus p5n motherboard that is ready for Intel's next gen processors. I'm holding off right now because I want to wait for nvidia's new card to come out in a month, than all the other cards should drop in price. Looking at sli'ing two GTS 512's. The g92 gts's are like 5-10% less powerful than those $700 gtx's. And right now they're like $320-340.........so in a month or so, I might be able get two of em for not a whole lot more.
Mind if I ask what you mean by having difficulty in getting a game to restart in sli mode? I only have one monitor........is that a problem?

I can run Crysis on recommended settings except for my video card.
If I were you I'd wait a month or two...ATI is supposed to release a lower priced high end graphics card dubbed the "Nvidia killer", which will be able to handle Crysis no problem, especially running a dual setup. Eventually I'll upgrade my card but I'm going to wait to see which is better.

that's the quad core right? I think if you got a nvidia gts you'd handle crisis "no problem" with that setup. Those GTS's, the 512's, are virtually as powerful as the 768 gtx's.....for like half the cost. I don't know about ATI.......nvidia is releasing the 9800's in a month or so. You pretty much have to base your motherboard on either nvidia or ATI cards.....so I'm not going to get a motherboard for ATI's only to want to upgrade to a 9800 in six months to a year.....and then have to buy a new motherboard. I think some of the really high end motherboards will support both cards......but those are super expensive I believe. Right now I'd sooner hedge my bet on nvidia.

Yeah I think if I had an AMD based board I'd go with ATI but like you said it's probably a good bet to stick with Nvidia for an Intel board. I'll upgrade my graphics card when the new ones are settled in price and put a case cooler in my pci slot underneath.

I'm thinkin in the next month or so, all these cards are going to come down when the 9 series is released. So I'll probably get a gts and just hold off on playing crisis till I can get another gts for like a $100. Two GTS's in sli will more than likely suffice me for a year if not longer, especially with a quad core processor. Those 9800's probably won't be worth it for at least a year. If they wrote crisis to take advantage of quad or at least dual core processors.........you wouldn't need $1800 worth of video card to run everything on high. I don't want to buy crisis till I can play it at near or full maximum.

Like I said I'm happy just playing HL:2 and will probably hit up Far Cry after that, maybe Doom 3 even though I played it on Xbox. Maybe also try a good strategy in the meantime. Eventually when Vista is as kink free as it'll get I'll install that in 64 bit, add a couple more gigs of RAM, upgrade my GPU and monitor and go from there.
I'm thinking of getting a PCI slot case cooler even though my 8600GT runs at around 58C right now, OC'd out of the box.
