Has anybody taken Paxil. If so how did they keep their heads in the gym. Its addictive as hell and it turned me into a fat housewife (I am a male who was ripped before). Any other bad results?

I know a couple guys have had a killer time coming off that shit. I would not touch it with a 10ft pole but to each his own

I've been on it for like 4 years. Its not addictive guys, but if some people have a hard time coming "off" it, then it is possible that they NEED to be taking it & when they DO try to come off, they are feeling the depression & anxiety, as well as other mental deficiencies, that the Paxil is supposed to be supressing. Its an SSRI(Selective Seratonin Reuptake Inhibitor), and the feelings of withdrawl that you may or may not feel when you come off are most likely from lack of seratonin. The thing is, if you were prescribed the Paxil, then you had a lack of seratonin production in the first place, so basically your just going back to feeling as shitty as you were mentally before the drug was started because of the lack of seratonin absorbtion in the brain. Unfortunately, Paxil doesn't CURE the disorders for which it is prescibed. I mean, it isn't like a chest infection & you take some tetracycline & it goes away. Paxil must be taken continuously to keep the symptoms from coming back. That is why I've been on it for so long. I know that if I go off, I'll go right back to the "old" me which was pretty unpleasant for most people to be around. ALSO, it did make me a fat slob for awhile too. I was told that it might cause weight loss & not gain when I was prescribed it, so I kept eating like a pig(like usual----I have a high metabolism), and before you know it I went from 200-235(all fat gains). After I realized that because of the Paxil, I wouldn't be able to eat like I would of before, I ajusted my diet accordingly & am now a ripped 195. I do like 2500-3000 calories daily.

I wouldn't sy it is addictive. I really don't think anything is addictive. If you have the will power you can stop anything. Case and point, steroids are not addictive. But I am hearing to many case of people saying they are trouble when not on them, they get annixeity attacks from not being on them anymore. That is just plain old no will power. They have it in their head that I am nothing without these drugs in me, which is not true.

I was on it for 6 months and gained 40 pounds, all fat (that I still haven't gotten rid of). Talk to your doctor about cycling you to another anti-deppresant. It will probably be a slow taper off of Paxil while slowly ramping up a diferent medication. For instance, I went from Paxil to Celexa and that doesn't seem to have any side effects.

Roiddog has some good points. I've been taking it for almost two years and it has caused an increase in body fat. I ran out of my pills once and had to go 5 days without it and it was HELL. I felt like shit. You're not supposed to quit cold turkey either because it can mess with your blood pressure.

Yeah, I never found it addictive in the sense that I just had to take it because it just made me feel so good. I guess it can be addictive in the sense that some, including me, have a terrible time coming off of it. Even just missing a dose or two would cause me to feel very strange.

Here is a real good thread on this whole subject

It's not addictive, but there is a withdrawal syndrome associated with abrupt cessation: aching, dizziness, flu-like symptoms. It's not harmful, but can be uncomfortable. It's more likely to happen the higher the dose you were taking, and the longer you've been taking it. Can last 7-10 days. When stopping it, you should decrease it by about 10mg every two weeks or so.
